What you'll be doing
The Executive Director, FICC eTrading Development will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance electronic US Treasury/Rates trading systems. This role combines deep technical expertise in Java with a solid understanding of Fixed Income markets to deliver reliable, scalable, and low-latency solutions that support the bank's trading and risk management objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with traders, business analysts, and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance trading capabilities, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive business growth.
You will have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement. Details on your work arrangement will be discussed at the time of your interview.
How you'll succeed
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and mentorship to the development team, ensuring best practices in software design, coding standards, and architectural decisions.
  • Solution Delivery: Oversee and be very hands on for the end-to-end delivery of robust, scalable, and low-latency eTrading solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:Work closely with traders, business analysts, product owners, and other technology teams to gather requirements, clarify objectives, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Code Quality & Review: Drive a culture of code excellence through regular code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration, ensuring maintainability and reliability, Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Risk & Compliance:Ensure all solutions comply with internal risk management policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Incident Management & Support:
  • Lead the resolution of high-impact production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes to prevent recurrence.
  • Project Planning: Contribute to project planning, estimation, and resource allocation to ensure timely and successful delivery of initiatives.

Cross Functional Relationships:
  • Trading Desk: Collaborate closely with traders to understand business requirements, trading strategies, and operational needs.
  • Product Management: Partner with product managers to prioritize features, align technology solutions with business goals, and deliver value to clients.
  • Business Analysts: Work with business analysts to clarify requirements, assess feasibility, and translate business needs into technical specifications.

Who you are
  • You demonstrate experience in Java (Core & Advanced): Strong proficiency in Java, including multi-threading, collections, and concurrency. You lead development streams of work and interact with global team members. Own and be accountable for various streams of work from feature development, enhancements to production fix. Inform and solicit feedback for design and architecture, incorporating resiliency and high availability and interface regularly with technology and business stakeholders
  • FI Trading Systems: Experience developing, maintaining, or supporting electronic foreign exchange (E-FI) trading platforms.
  • Messaging Protocols: Familiarity with FIX protocol, MQ, JMS, or similar messaging solutions.
  • API Development: Experience with RESTful and/or SOAP web services.
  • Low Latency Programming: Understanding of techniques for minimizing latency in trading applications.
  • Spring Framework: Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and related technologies.
  • Database Technologies: Strong SQL skills; experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL solutions.
  • Distributed Systems: Understanding of distributed computing concepts and technologies (e.g., microservices, caching, clustering).
  • Testing Frameworks: Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing tools.
  • CI/CD: Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins, TeamCity, Git).
  • You possess strong soft skills essential for success in this role. Demonstrate problem-solving and analytical abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with traders, business analysts, and developers. Adaptable to fast-paced, dynamic environments and shifting priorities. Experienced in working within Agile/Scrum teams.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $200,000 - $290,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
