Additionally, being proactive in seeking feedback and documenting work thoroughly ensures smoother collaboration and successful project delivery.

What is a Web Developer Contract?

A Web Developer Contract is a legal agreement between a client and a web developer outlining the terms, responsibilities, deliverables, timeline, and payment for web development services. This contract protects both parties by clearly defining the scope of work, deadlines, and any intellectual property rights. It typically covers specifics such as website functionality, design, maintenance, and post-launch support. Having a contract helps to prevent misunderstandings and ensures that both the client and developer are aligned on expectations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web Developer Contractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Developer Contractor, you need strong proficiency in programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks, supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, content management systems (CMS), and sometimes certifications like AWS Certified Developer can be valuable. Job description

Hi, Future Homie!
At Homebase, you'll join a team that's bold, fast-moving, and obsessed with helping small businesses thrive. We build with empathy, act with urgency, and take big swings that drive real-world impact. Here, every Homie shows up to raise the bar, support one another, and celebrate wins as a team.
We're not just building an app-we're building unstoppable teams. So what do you say, are you in?
This role is a 6-month fixed-term contract.
Your Impact Starts Here
We're looking for a Web Development Engineer to own the performance, quality, and growth of our website (built on Webflow)-one of the company's most important customer acquisition channels.
We're not looking for someone to execute a defined playbook. We need an expert who will audit our current setup, own the diagnosis, and drive fixes without needing to be handed answers. If you have a proven track record of jumping into complex problems and figuring them out, this is your role.
We're not looking for someone to execute a defined playbook. We need an expert who will audit our current setup, own the diagnosis, and drive fixes without needing to be handed answers. You're highly autonomous, cross-functional by nature, and customer-focused - someone who moves fast, iterates, and owns outcomes end-to-end. If you have a proven track record of jumping into complex problems and figuring it out - this is your role.
These are the key ways you'll contribute and create impact in this role:
Website Performance & Quality
  • Own technical quality across joinhomebase.com.
  • Responsible for Core Web Vitals and site performance, and work in collaboration with the Organic team to continuously improve SEO/AEO health.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance regressions across LCP, INP, and CLS on mobile web and desktop
  • Identify root causes and implement fixes
  • Work within Webflow's constraints and around them where needed

Growth Foundations & Landing Pages
  • Build and launch landing pages for paid, SEO, and campaign initiatives.
  • Create scalable templates and reusable components that help Marketing move faster.
  • Partner with Design and Marketing to deliver fast, high-quality experiences.

Funnel Optimization & Experimentation
  • Improve the website-to-signup journey and reduce friction throughout onboarding.
  • Design and implement A/B tests across landing pages, messaging, and conversion flows.
  • Use analytics and customer behavior data to prioritize and measure impact.

AI-Enabled Development
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development, improve quality, and automate workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to increase team productivity through AI and automation.

The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:
  • 6-8+ years of web development experience.
  • Deep, hands-on Webflow expertise is required - not just page-building, but CMS architecture, custom code integration, and performance optimization. You should be able to audit our site setup and immediately have opinions.
  • Strong HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills.
  • Experience with experimentation, analytics, and conversion optimization. You understand how experimentation tooling interacts with Webflow.
  • We use tools like Amplitude, Statsig, and Hotjar - familiarity with any of these is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility, and SEO.
  • Experience integrating websites with product onboarding, analytics, and marketing systems.

AI-Fluency - We're an AI-first company. AI fluency is required in every role. Successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Comfort using AI tools to accelerate development and reduce repetitive work.
  • Ability to improve workflows and productivity through AI.
  • Curiosity about emerging AI technologies and practical applications.

The Homie Way - These principles guide everything we do-from how we work and make decisions to how we show up for each other.
  • Be Customer Obsessed - Solve problems with empathy and creativity.
  • Move Fast, Learn Fast - Experiment, take action, and grow every day.
  • Own Your Impact - Think big, focus on what matters, and make decisions you stand behind.
  • Master Your Craft - Excellence fuels impact-show up, step up, and make your mark.
  • Win Together - Put goals over roles, lead with trust, and connect to our mission and each other.

What to Expect During the Interview Process
  • Meet the Talent Acquisition team, Mavel W.
  • Meet the Hiring Manager, Kristen S.
  • Participate in a Technical Deep Dive
  • Meet the Head of Growth Marketing, Jenna B.
  • Background Check + Offer Stage
  • Welcome to the team, Homie

Belonging at Homebase - We're committed to fostering a welcoming space where every Homie can be their full self. Experience comes in many forms-so if you're excited about this role, even if you don't meet 100% of the qualifications, we encourage you to apply!
Homebase will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
