Web Design Engineer

Base Power Company

Austin, TX • On-site

Full-time

Posted 9 days ago

Job description

Job Summary:
Base Power Company is America’s next-generation power company focused on transforming the electricity grid with distributed batteries. They are seeking a Web Design Engineer to take ownership of their website, managing its architecture, design, copy, and performance while collaborating with various teams to enhance user engagement and conversion.
Responsibilities:
• Own basepowercompany.com end-to-end: architecture, design, copy, and performance.
• Build and ship pages in Next.js, React, and Tailwind: landing pages, campaign pages, product launches, and iterative improvements.
• Maintain visual consistency and brand quality across every page and breakpoint.
• Write and shape website copy in Base’s voice, working closely with Marketing and Design.
• Design and run A/B and multivariate experiments to improve conversion, engagement, and member quality.
• Own technical SEO and site performance: Core Web Vitals, structured data, page speed, and crawlability.
• Build and maintain a component library that makes future development faster and more consistent.
• Build AI-powered web features and design the workflows (prompts, agents, data pipelines) that make the team faster and the site smarter.
• Collaborate with Growth, Design, Product, and Engineering to translate business goals into web experiences.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5–8 years working at the intersection of web design and front-end development, with a portfolio that proves both.
• Production-quality Next.js, React, and Tailwind skills. You’ve shipped real things, not just prototypes.
• A sharp design eye: typography, spacing, hierarchy, motion. You notice when something is off by 4px.
• Comfort writing and editing copy. You can shape a headline, not just implement one.
• Hands-on experience with PostHog: feature flags, session replay, experiments, and funnel analysis.
• Comfort building with AI: designing workflows, prompting models, and integrating AI features into production web experiences.
• Strong SEO and performance fundamentals: Core Web Vitals, semantic HTML, structured data, rendering strategies.
• Proficiency in Figma. You move fluidly between design and code.
• Self-directed. You can hold the full scope of a web project in your head and ship without constant oversight.
Company:
Base is building the future of American power. The grid is the largest, most complex machine in the world. Founded in 2023, the company is headquartered in Austin, USA, with a team of 201-500 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
