About the Waterfront Allianceย 
The Waterfront Alliance is a civic organization that brings together a diverseย allianceย of moreย than 1,100 Alliance Partners with ties to the New Yorkโ€“New Jersey waterways. Founded inย ย 2007, our mission is to inspire and effect resilient, revitalized, and accessible coastlines for allย communities. Key programs and advocacy areas include climate resilience, public access to theย waterfront, the working waterfront, and climate education.ย 
About the Positionย 
We are seekingย twoย part-timeย waterfront educatorsย to provide direct instruction for our Estuaryย Explorersย environmental education and public programs.ย ย 
Working under the supervision of the senior educationย program manager, theย part-timeย waterfront educatorsย will be responsible for engaging with partners, students, and the public at schools, community organizations, and tabling events, and leading outdoor waterfront field labs (focused on marine science and coastal resilience) with students participating in the Estuary Explorers program.ย ย ย 
Theย part-timeย waterfront educatorsย will beย brought inย to support programmingย startingย Aprilย 2026. Work will take placeย in the office through curriculum development, as well asย outside the office (at schools, at community organizations, at outdoor events, etc.) on weekdays and weekends, at locations throughout the five boroughs.ย ย ย

Classification:ย Part-time, non-exemptย (average ofย 15ย hoursย perย weekย including travel and preparation time.ย ย Hours are dependent on class/events schedule)ย 

Salary and Benefits:ย $26ย per hourย with limited benefitsย 

Reports To: Senior Education Managerย 
ย 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in trainings led by Waterfront Alliance program staff to learn aboutย and contribute toย the curriculum / pedagogy, as well asย shadow a program.ย ย 

  • Instruct simple water quality testing lesson with students as part of the Estuary Explorers education program, as well as lead discussion around climate change, coastal resilience, sustainability, and civic engagement (this includes lifting buckets of harbor water; educational content training may be provided).ย ย 

  • Assistย with tabling events by speaking with the public, distributing materials, and doing activity demonstrations.ย ย 

  • Manage access to waterfront sites for workshops, including permissions, directions, amenities, and weather contingency plans.ย ย 

  • Maintain clean and organized workshop supplies.ย ย ย 

Qualificationsย 

  • Experience in maritime or environmental programming, school-based educational programming, experiential education, event production, tabling, and/or equivalent educational backgroundย ย ย 

  • Comfortable working outdoors and available for regular onsite presence at waterfront locations throughout New York Cityย ย 

  • Willingness to lead programs solo or with another educatorย ย 

  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to prioritize competing tasksย ย ย 

  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of constituents; positive customer service approachย ย ย 

  • Ability to handle occasional stressful (public-facing) situations with professionalism and courtesyย ย ย 

  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred, but notย requiredย ย ย 

  • Willing toย comply withย a background check.ย ย
