Job description

Team members are expected toย possessย and modelย high standards,ย a strongย customer service orientation and punctuality.ย ย This job reports to the Camp Grossman Waterfront Aquatics Director.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:ย ย ย 

  • Ensures the safety of everyย camperย through education, vigilant preventative guarding, first aid, emergency medical services, and rescue servicesย ย 
  • Provides consistentย waterfrontย coverage and smooth transitions between shifts through planning,ย punctualityย and personal accountabilityย ย 
  • Enforces the rules and regulations of theย waterfrontย consistentlyย ย 
  • Maintains good working relationships withย campย staff members,ย waterfrontย personnel, administrative personnel, andย campers.ย ย 
  • Resolvesย memberย concerns in a professional manner or escalates them, as appropriateย ย 
  • Createsย waterfrontย related documentation (e.g.ย opening/closing checklists, batherย trackingย and incident reports)ย ย 
  • Able and willing to follow directions from supervisors and follow protocolsย ย 
  • Maintains a safe and neatย waterfrontย area;ย assistย inย beachย maintenance by performing scheduled checks,ย cleaningย and maintenanceย ย 
  • Conducts swim testsย ย 
  • Be familiarย with, andย follow theย campย schedule - including correctly configuringย lane linesย according to the schedule.ย ย 
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and in-servicesย ย 
  • Support JCC goals andย objectivesย ย 
  • Learn all aspects of theย waterfrontย and its daily operations. For example,ย swimย lessons,ย openfreeย swim, etc.ย ย 
  • Participate in weekly skill checksย ย 
  • Serve as aย staffย member ofย both Camp Grossman andย theย agency JCCย Aquaticsย departmentย Staffย with responsibilities, which, at times, extend beyond the limits of his/her specialized functionsย ย

  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic that contributes to an environment whereย each individualย is valued and respectedย ย 
  • Support JCC Greater Boston's mission, vision, and values including through personal role modelingย ย 
  • Attend JCC meetings, and activelyย participateย in and support the JCC/the department's goals and initiativesย ย ย

JOB DETAILS: We are an outdoor camp, located on beautiful, wooded property in Dover, MA. The regular camp day runs from 8:30 - 4:00, Monday - Friday, for the camp season. In addition, Waterfront Staff are expected to attend 4 staff meetings on Monday afternoons at Camp and/or evenings at JCC Greater Boston. Waterfront Staff also work a Sunday Family Day on Sunday, July 26. Offering great perks, including JCC Health & Fitness center access, a supportive, vibrant in-person work environment, and a competitive starting pay rate range of $20-$25 per hour. This is a limited part-time (2-25 hours per week) role. The pay rate offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience and JCC's internal equity.ย ย

Requirements

Education and Experience:ย ย ย 

  • Current/valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification,ย with Waterfront,ย with CPR,ย AEDย and First Aid.ย ย 
  • Must be 16 years of age or older atย timeย of hire.ย ย 

Skills and Abilities:ย ย ย 

  • Able to see, hear and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding servicesย ย 
  • Capable of working inย a high temperatureย and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipmentย ย 
  • Able to make safety related decisions and perform CPR and/or first aid, asย requiredย ย 
  • Read, write,ย understandย and speak Englishย ย 
  • Must be able to use a computerย ย 

Physical Requirements:ย ย Mustย maintainย an appropriate levelย of fitnessย in order toย competently perform allย job relatedย tasks including the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, asย determinedย by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights withย assistanceย and/or the use of proper equipment.ย ย
