We are seeking a motivated Pipefitter to support pipeline construction and maintenance projects for our Public Works department in Sacramento, CA. In this role you will install, repair and maintain water piping systems including water mains, valves, fire hydrants and services. Key duties include reading project plans and specifications, cut and thread pipes and performing repairs to ensure safe water delivery.

The Role

  • Prep and clean job sites
  • Dig pits and/or trenches, backfill, compact and level to grade
  • Control traffic in and around work zones
  • Pothole to expose utilities
  • Layout, assemble and install pipes, valves and fittings for water systems including water mains and services lines
  • Cut, thread and prepare pipe
  • Operate hand tools, jackhammers, air compressors and vacuums
  • Load, transport and unload tools and materials
  • Perform general physical activities that may include climbing, lifting and balance
  • Adhere to safety regulations including OSHA standards
  • Complete pre-trip and driver logs when applicable
  • Travel to various job sites within a 2-hour radius (meet at yard & return same day)
  • Drive Company vehicles responsibly and safely
  • Responsible for loading, properly strapping & hauling heavy equipment as well as towing a vac, dumping & cleaning the vac
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 3+ years previous experience in plumbing, piping or municipal water utilities at a journeyman level required
  • Having experience with water main repairs and installations of pipe sizes from 6" to 24" in diameter required
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred
  • Ability to prep and clean job sites, dig trenches or pits, backfill, and level ground to grade
  • Capable of safely controlling traffic in and around work zones
  • Experience with potholing to expose underground utilities
  • Knowledge of underground piping systems (storm, sanitary, or water) installation
  • Ability to assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings using various materials (e.g., couplings, clamps, cement, solder, etc.)
  • Skilled in measuring, marking, and locating pipe installations using rulers, levels, or similar tools
  • Ability to cut, thread, and shape pipes using saws, torches, pipe threaders, and benders
  • Comfortable operating hand tools, jackhammers, air compressors, and vacuums
  • Able to lift, carry, and transport tools and materials safely
  • Experience and ability to use basic hand tools, jackhammers and jumping jacks
  • Able to bend, lift, kneel and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to withstand exposure to heat, cold and rain; chemicals and fumes; dust from roads and break up of concrete; cars on roads
  • Able to travel to various job sites within a 2-hour radius (meet at yard & return same day)
  • Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver's license is required if the role involves driving
  • Class A CDL preferred; N endorsement preferred; airbrakes & manual preferred
  • Passing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)
