Tailman
Hughes Brothers Construction is now hiring! We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in large site infrastructure, underground utilities and roadway construction throughout Central Florida. The Tailman supports the pipe crew in the installation of underground utilities and infrastructure projects. This position works closely with the Operator and Pipe Layer to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient installation of storm, sewer, and water systems on heavy civil construction job sites.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with installation of storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water main systems
  • Set and secure pipe to line and grade under direction of Pipe Layer and Foreman
  • Guide heavy equipment operators using hand signals and radio communication
  • Install gaskets, couplings, and fittings
  • Check grade using laser levels and grade rods
  • Backfill and compact around installed pipe
  • Ensure proper bedding and compaction of trench materials
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Assist with loading/unloading materials and tools
  • Perform general labor duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to use hand tools and small equipment
  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift to 40 pounds
  • Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures
  • Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
  • Out-of-town travel and/or overtime is a possibility
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • English and Spanish fluency a plus, but not required
