Job description

Town of Marana Marana is one of the fastest-growing communities in Southern Arizona, located approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown Tucson and 75 minutes southeast of Phoenix. Our Cultural Values are: Dedicated Service, Respect, Teamwork, and Engaged Innovation. Position Description The Town of Marana is seeking an Engineering Intern to work in the Water Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on learning experience in the fields of water and wastewater infrastructure planning, design, and operations. This internship offers the opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a professional setting, working alongside experienced engineers and technical staff. While the Water Department will accommodate class schedules or other activities, the Water Intern is expected to work 19-40 hours a week to be scheduled during normal business hours: M-F 8:00 am - 5:00pm.

The anticipated start date will be June/July 2026 and the opportunity can be extended within the school year depending on availability. Pursuant to the Marana Town Code, Sections 3-1-2(D) and 3-1-3(B), and the current Salary Schedule implemented by the Town Manager, the position of Engineering Intern is defined as a temporary position. Temporary positions are at-will employees and employment that may be terminated upon the will of the employer or employee at any time with or without cause.

Hiring Rate: Undergraduate - $16.15/hour Graduate School - $17.15 Examples of Duties Under the supervision of professional engineering staff: Assists in reviewing public and developer financed construction documents; helps evaluate technical documents including infrastructure improvement plans, hydraulic modeling reports, and master plans. Assists with operating and maintaining hydraulic water and sewer models used to track system capacity; assists with conducting analysis and "what if" development scenarios in modeling software. Assists with providing basic engineering support to water distribution, water treatment, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment operations

Assists with preparing basic technical memoranda, reports, and presentations to describe results of hydraulic and engineering analysis. -Assists in investigations of water/sewer related field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and infrastructure operations and maintenance. Minimum Qualifications Currently pursuing a Bachelor/Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

Additional Requirements: Valid Arizona Driver License Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate a base academic knowledge of the water/wastewater engineering industry with a desire to gain working experience.
