THE CITY OF DANVILLE: The City of Danville is located 35 miles southwest of Lexington and is a thriving community with a population of 17,000. The City is a municipal government agency with a highly efficient infrastructure providing a broad range of public services: water and wastewater treatment, police and fire services, 911 emergency dispatch services, parks and recreation, cemeteries, and public works. The City of Danville is also the business hub to a 5 county, 100,000 +region with quality school systems and a highly educated workforce.

Department: Water Distribution


Responsible To:

Water Distribution Superintendent


Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Water Distribution Superintendent, this position will be responsible for assisting in the operation and maintenance of the City's Water Distribution Utility system within the area of their certifications and qualifications. This is a labor-intensive position that will work with minimal direct supervision.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Required to repair, maintain, clean, mow, and keep equipment, pipes, tanks, grounds, and systems operating and clean.

Required to drive City vehicles, both small and large.

Responsible for handling customer questions and complaints.

Operation of heavy equipment upon completion of necessary training.

Responsible for cleaning of vehicles and equipment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers, water customers, and the general public.

Required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand.

Performs other job duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time.

Must have the ability to climb into deep and confined spaces.

Must be able to work outside under all types of weather conditions.

Ability to be trained on and operate various heavy duty equipment and vehicles.

Must have ability to understand mathematical formulas, and the capability to utilize the application of such formulas.


Education and Experience:

HS Diploma or GED.

Must have valid and current driver's license.

Prior water distribution experience is desired, but not required.

KY Water Distribution License Level I, II, III, or IV is preferred, but not required.

Working knowledge of tools and machinery operation and maintenance is a plus.

Prior experience with the operation of light and heavy duty trucks is desired, but not required.


Certifications:

Must have ability to study for and obtain KY state certified Water Distribution Operator License for levels I, II, III, and IV.

Special consideration will be given to applicants that currently hold a KY Water Distribution Operator License.


Physical Requirements:

Standing for prolonged periods of time.

Twisting, stooping, bending, and walking on a regular basis.

Ability to crawl in and out of tight and confined spaces.

Ability to climb up and down ladders, and over rough and irregular ground surfaces.

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on regular basis.


Compensation:

$32,131 - $69,222 annually

Candidate's starting salary will be commensurate with their level of water distribution experience.
