Job description

ELOS Environmental, an Aventia Company, is seeking a Waste Technician for our Waste Management Services Department within the Chalmette Refinery. A drug screening will be required for this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Support ELOS’ Waste Management Team within the Chalmette Refinery
  • Operating a forklift throughout the refinery to assist in the disposal of waste
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the project manager

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Truck Loading and Unloading: Loading and unloading goods from trucks & trailers
  • Moving materials, including pallets, crates, and other items, around the refinery
  • Ability to climb ladders 15 feet
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area
  • Adhering to all safety procedures and regulations

DEFENSIVE DRIVING/OPERATING

  • Plan ahead
  • Constantly monitor operations and scan surroundings
  • Protect yourself and others
  • Eliminate distractions
  • Anticipate, recognize, and avoid potential hazards/obstructions such as:
    • workers
    • underground and overhead utilities
    • other equipment or vehicles

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required
  • Must have experience with operating a forklift
  • Must have strong communication skills (in person and via radio and phone)
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as necessary
  • Must be capable of completing daily and weekly assignments on schedule
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening prior to and during employment (subject to random drug testing)
  • Ability to transition from one assignment to another on short notice
  • Must have a positive working attitude
  • Willing to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
