Job description

Purpose:

The Warranty Quality Engineer is responsible for managing the end-to-end warranty claim process within the Americas quality organization, covering operations in the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. This role receives, reviews, and technically evaluates warranty claims submitted by OEM customers, negotiates cost-sharing with customers where applicable, and manages the classification and distribution of approved claims to suppliers and affiliated entities. The position also drives warranty cost reduction through data analysis and cross-functional improvement activities

Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

Customer Warranty Claim Management

  • Receive and classify warranty claims submitted by OEM customers; conduct technical review to assess claim validity and accuracy
  • Initiate and prepare dispute submissions with technical justification where claims are determined to be invalid or inaccurate; register decisions in the customerโ€™s warranty management system
  • Negotiate warranty cost-sharing ratios with OEM customers based on technical analysis and contractual terms
  • Review buyback claims submitted by affiliated entities (subsidiaries/related companies), validate technical content and completeness, and submit to the customer on their behalf

Approved Claim Distribution & Supplier Management

  • Upon claim approval, classify warranty costs into supplier claims and inter-company (affiliate) claims based on root cause and responsibility
  • Notify responsible suppliers and affiliated entities of approved claims; receive and process dispute submissions and register outcomes in the warranty management system
  • Coordinate with Supplier Quality and Purchasing teams to ensure timely resolution of supplier-responsible warranty claims

Warranty Analysis & Improvement

  • Analyze warranty claim data across Americas operations (United States, Mexico, and Brazil) to identify Worst performers by part, supplier, or failure mode
  • Communicate findings to relevant departments and drive corrective action requests where systemic issues are identified
  • Monitor claim status and analyze Quality System Early Warning alerts to proactively detect potential quality issues; conduct technical analysis of warning signals and coordinate timely response actions with relevant departments
  • Prepare warranty performance reports and trend analysis for management review meetings

Warranty Reserve Management

  • Calculate warranty cost provisions (reserves) based on approved claim data and applicable accrual criteria
  • Maintain and calculate accurate warranty Provisions records and provide periodic updates to finance and management teams

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field)
  • 0โ€“3 years of experience in quality, engineering, or manufacturing environment (internship and co-op experience welcomed)
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct technical data analysis and translate findings into clear management reports
  • Basic understanding of automotive warranty processes or OEM customer quality systems is a plus


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, data modeling) and PowerPoint (executive-level reporting and presentation design)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret technical quality data and draw actionable conclusions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; able to communicate technical findings to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Understanding of basic problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5Why) and quality tools (FMEA basics)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with OEM warranty management systems (e.g., GM Partlink, Ford GSAR, Stellantis SAWRP+)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of presenting complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Preferred: Experience with Power BI, Power Query, and/or database systems for large-scale warranty data management
  • Preferred: Korean language proficiency (spoken and/or written) is a plus, given regular collaboration with the Korean headquarters


Legal Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to federal labor law requirements.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.


Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to customer sites, supplier locations, or affiliated company facilities
  • Standard business hours with flexibility required during customer claim deadlines or escalation events


Physical Requirements:

Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods

Occasional travel within the Americas region (United States, Mexico, Brazil) may be required

Remote Work: This position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work.
