APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) is a structured process to ensure product quality from design to production, often used in automotive and aerospace industries. Quality Engineers focus on analyzing quality data, implementing improvements, and maintaining quality standards. While APQP involves planning and process management, Quality Engineers execute and monitor quality activities. Both roles are essential in manufacturing but serve different functions within the quality management system.

What is APQP?

APQP stands for Advanced Product Quality Planning, which is a structured process used primarily in the automotive industry to ensure products meet customer requirements and quality standards. It involves planning, defining, and verifying processes throughout the product development cycle, from concept to production. The main goal of APQP is to facilitate communication between suppliers and customers, reduce risks, and ensure product reliability. APQP typically consists of five phases, including planning, product design, process design, product validation, and feedback assessment. This methodology helps organizations consistently deliver high-quality products on time.
