Description:Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more - we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We're creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision. We're erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We're advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we're reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.
Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you.
This position will support the development and strategy of a new organization, Quality Acceleration. In this role you will be responsible for embedding the industry imperatives of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and other strategic initiatives across the corporation.
The APQP Engineer will play a critical role in integrating APQP into the DNA of our business through the administration of a disciplined operating system. You will drive early risk identification, align cross functional teams, and prevent issues before they reach downstream stakeholders and ultimately the customer-adding structure, rigor, and governance to our current processes. You will be instrumental in shaping each of the APQP phases and leading these throughout the program lifecycle.
The role works closely with executive leadership, providing strategic, educated insights and recommendations for cross BA implementation. It offers high exposure to senior leaders and high visibility across the entire enterprise.
If you are detail oriented with the ability to zero in on tactical issues while also envisioning long term strategy, enjoy operating with ambiguity, navigate complex organizational relationships, and get a kick out of driving business outcomes to closure, then this might just be for you!
Key Responsibilities
• APQP Integration - Serve as the primary point of contact for APQP across the four Lockheed Martin business areas; embed APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, and First Article Inspection into product development and manufacturing lifecycles.
• Risk Management - Conduct early stage risk assessments (FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA), create and maintain process flow diagrams, control plans, and mitigation strategies to minimize defects and improve product reliability.
• Cross Functional Leadership - Align and coordinate multi disciplinary teams (design, manufacturing, suppliers, quality, and program management) to ensure consistent execution of quality plans.
• Executive Roadshows - Develop and deliver roadshow presentations to senior stakeholders, summarizing program health, risk status, and actionable recommendations.
• Metrics & Reporting - Define, track, and report performance metrics (yield, defect density, compliance rates) that demonstrate the impact of APQP activities.
• Project Execution - Own end to end project plans, from genesis through closure, ensuring deliverables are met on schedule without sacrificing quality.
• Supplier Collaboration - Partner with suppliers to align their processes with LM APQP standards, conduct supplier FMEA reviews, and support PPAP submissions.
• Continuous Improvement - Analyze data trends, drive root cause investigations, and recommend process enhancements that increase manufacturing efficiency.
Basic Qualifications:
• Manufacturing, electrical, industrial, production, and/or systems engineering degree or other technical disciplines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word) for documentation, visual reporting, and collaboration.
• True, lived experience implementing APQP tenants and templates on a large corporate scale.
• Demonstrated project leadership experience (logistics, task assignment, milestone tracking, communications, organization dynamics, documentation).
• Strong relationship building and collaboration skills; excellent verbal and written communication for a wide range of audiences. This individual is a self-starter and is not afraid to hold program leadership accountable for APQP gate criteria.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance.
Desired Skills:
• Strong leadership acumen.
• Extensive knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning, Design FMEA (DFMEA), Process FMEA (PFMEA), Critical Characteristic Control Plans, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and First Article Inspection.
• Familiarity with program/product lifecycles and alignment to APQP gates.
• Experience working with brownfield, greenfield, and hybrid program types as well as development and sustainment programs.
• Proven ability to own projects from conception through completion, juggling multiple priorities without missing deliverables.
• Highly analytical, detail oriented, and capable of turning high level discussion and data into actionable insights.
• Strong cross functional collaboration and executive presence.
