Job description

Warehouse Operations Supervisor - Brooklyn, NY
Rainbow Shops, a leading affordable fashion retailer serving diverse customers nationwide, is seeking a dedicated Warehouse Operations Supervisor to actively lead and oversee daily operations directly on the floor in our high-volume distribution center. This hands-on leadership role is critical for ensuring efficient processing of returns, receipts, shipments, and vendor returns (RTVs), while supporting timely delivery to stores and maintaining inventory accuracy. The successful candidate will lead FedEx negotiations to optimize carrier arrangements, receive full warehouse training, and manage a team in a fast-paced, hands-on warehouse environment (mostly on the floor, not at a desk).
Key Responsibilities
• Actively lead and supervise daily warehouse operations from the floor, including returns processing, inbound receiving, outbound shipping, new store shipments, cross-dock activities, and Pack-to-Light fulfillment to retail locations.
• Oversee the receipt and handling of damaged and recall merchandise; troubleshoot issues during the receiving process and escalate unresolved matters to the appropriate department promptly.
• Collaborate closely with the Merchandising Department to ensure all Return to Vendor (RTV) merchandise is processed, prepared, and documented efficiently and on schedule. • Coordinate with vendors via email and phone to schedule pickups for RTV merchandise as required, leveraging strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and timing.
• Verify that all damaged items are returned to vendors daily or weekly using FedEx Ground or the vendor's designated carrier, maintaining accurate records, compliance, and effective FedEx negotiations for shipping arrangements.
• Partner with Inventory Control to confirm that damage/recall cartons delivered to Rainbow facilities are properly processed and updated in the system. • Monitor and support the re-hash department to ensure smooth operations; provide troubleshooting assistance and resolve any operational issues that arise.
• Train, mentor, and direct warehouse associates hands-on to promote safety, productivity, and adherence to company procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while upholding quality standards and inventory integrity-all while being actively present on the warehouse floor.
Qualifications and Requirements
• 8-10 years of operational warehouseexperience in a distribution center or similar high-volume environment, with a proven track record of hands-on leadership.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing staff directly on the floor in a warehouse, distribution center, or retail logistics environment required.
• Bilingual Spanish/English fluency to effectively communicate with diverse team members and vendors.
• FedEx negotiation and coordination experience, including scheduling pickups, managing carrier relationships, and optimizing shipping processes.
• Retail or soft goods (apparel/fashion/textiles) experience preferred, with familiarity in handling clothing, accessories, or similar inventory.
• Forklift and Hi-Lo (reach truck) operation experience preferred; must be comfortable and capable of operating equipment as needed on the floor.
• Strong computer literacy: experience with AS/400 (or similar legacy ERP/WMS systems) is highly preferred.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact effectively with team members, vendors, and internal departments.
• Proven ability to learn quickly, comprehend new processes, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the capacity to multitask effectively under time constraints.
• Physical ability to perform hands-on warehouse duties, including lifting, standing for extended periods, operating equipment, and being actively on the floor throughout the shift (this is not a desk-based role).
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional logistics, supply chain, or supervisory training/certifications a plus.
