Job description

The Materials Supervisor at New Flyer will oversee the materials management department, ensuring timely availability of materials and efficient operation of inventory processes. This role involves supervising a team of materials coordinators and planners, coordinating with various departments, and implementing strategies to optimize material flow while maintaining quality standards.

  • Supervise and lead the materials team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure effective processes and best practices.
  • Manage daily operations of materials planning, scheduling, and inventory control to meet production requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve inventory accuracy, reduce waste, and enhance material handling processes.
  • Coordinate with production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to materials management and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and quality requirements in all materials handling activities.
  • Conduct regular audits of inventory levels, oversee cycle counting processes, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address quality issues, negotiate contracts, and improve supplier performance.
  • Implement and maintain effective inventory management practices, including just-in-time (JIT) strategies.
  • Assist in budgeting and cost control efforts related to materials and inventory management.
  • Provide regular reports and updates on materials status, inventory levels, and departmental performance to senior management.

Requirements

  • Two to four years previous warehouse maintenance, shipping and receiving or inventory control experience
  • One to two years previous supervisor experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or warehouse environment
  • Ability to communicate, establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to accept challenges in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and a self-starter that is motivated to achieve tasks within set timelines
  • APICS Certification or currently enrolled in APICS program and asset
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficient in inventory management systems and MS Office applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials planning, procurement, and logistics processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and implementing best practices in materials management.
