As a member-owned cooperative, its primary focus is on delivering reliable and affordable energy to its members rather than generating profits. Wake Electric is responsible for maintaining power lines, responding to outages, and offering energy efficiency programs. Members have a say in how the cooperative is run and may receive capital credits based on their electricity usage.

Both roles require similar certifications and safety training, but Wake Electric focuses on service provision, whereas linemen perform physical infrastructure work outdoors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electric Utility Technician at Wake Electric, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electric Utility Technician at Wake Electric, you need a strong understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent with specialized training in electrical work. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, SCADA systems, GIS mapping, and, often, a CDL license or relevant certifications is important. Exceptional problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication help technicians respond efficiently to outages and coordinate with colleagues and customers. These skills ensure the reliable delivery of electricity, minimize downtime, and maintain high safety and service standards.

What are some typical responsibilities for an employee working at Wake Electric, and how do they contribute to the company's operations?

Employees at Wake Electric typically handle responsibilities such as maintaining electrical infrastructure, responding to service outages, performing routine inspections, and assisting with customer inquiries. Team members may work in the field or office, collaborating closely with engineers, linemen, and customer service representatives to ensure reliable electricity delivery. Their contributions are essential for minimizing downtime, upholding safety standards, and supporting the cooperative's mission to serve the community efficiently. This collaborative environment offers opportunities for skill development and progression within the utility industry.
