We are looking for capable, innovative, and enthusiastic achievers to join our team and grow with us. We are currently seeking a Chemical Operator for our site in Charleston, TN.
What you will do:The Chemical Operator will use computers and process control systems as part of the distributed control system (DCS) to safely monitor, control, and document production at the Charleston plant site, as well as perform field inspections to check safety status, environmental aspects, and to complete any manual tasks necessary for steady and safe operations. This role will cooperate with other qualified staff in serving, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance at the plant. The Chemical Operator will also work with hazardous materials and follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety, and quality.
- Monitor the DCS (Distributed control system); diverse processes running simultaneously; use the DCS for startup and shut down of equipment and change of operating conditions advised by management
- Perform production field duties which include monitoring, controlling, and documenting production flow and processing steps as well as manual operation of valves and other equipment
- Monitor and prioritize responses to issues in multiple places
- Interact with databases and computer software; document all operational steps in an electronic shift log
- Observe/differentiate between standard conditions and deviations from normal operation (e.g. unusual smells, sounds, odors, etc.)
- Perform Lock out / Tag out in accordance with site procedure
- Demonstrated knowledge and safe operation of refrigeration and/or process compressors, including startup, shutdown, monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Interpret and document production and quality data. Report production performance/potential issues to supervisor and provide feedback to technical staff as necessary
- Support alarms/response to emergency conditions wearing full protective gear
- Work with hand tools- change filters, gaskets, valves, vessels, as well as switch spectacle blinds, etc. Perform other minor maintenance tasks and repairs
- Support maintenance crew and safe work permit process
- Read and understand P&ID's
- Conduct frequent communication/coordination between control room, field operations, and other departments
- Identify opportunities to improve all aspects of production process
- Follow company policies regarding health and environmental protection, work safety, plant safety, and quality
- Responsible for RCRA generation as relating to container and labeling usage, maintenance and storage functions, and regular inspections of RCRA applicable areas.

EDUCATION:Associate's degree in technical or mathematical field
OR High School Diploma or GED
AND 5+ years of chemical operator experience dealing with hazardous chemicals such as HCl
TYPE OF EXPERIENCE NEEDED: - Technical and mechanical aptitude as well as basic computer skills
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Completion of the Chemical Operator program at Chattanooga State Community College (or equivalent program) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: - Have proven technical and mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills
- Be a team player with the desire to lead and coach/train others
- Detail and quality oriented with safety and environmental consciousness required
- Ability for effective communication under pressure (face-to-face, radio/phone, computer)
- Be willing to work any shift (including 12-hour shifts and/or rotating shifts) necessary to support a 24/7 operation (including nights, weekends, holidays, etc...)
- Be willing to work overtime (including weekends and holidays) if necessary
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must pass pre-employment testing
