Job description

The Complex Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and operational management of a large-scale egg production complex in Colorado. This role oversees all live production activities including flock performance, employee leadership, biosecurity, animal welfare, environmental compliance, maintenance coordination, and operational efficiency.

The Complex Manager will lead a multi-department team to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable egg production while maintaining the highest standards of bird care, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance.

This position plays a critical leadership role in achieving company production goals, maintaining customer quality standards, and supporting long-term operational growth initiatives.

Key ResponsibilitiesLive Production Leadership
  • Direct and oversee all daily operations of the egg production complex.

  • Ensure proper environmental conditions including ventilation, lighting, temperature, and air quality.

  • Monitor flock behavior and production metrics to identify operational improvement opportunities.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, flock service personnel, maintenance staff, and hourly team members.
  • Establish accountability and performance expectations across departments.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and operational training.
  • Promote a culture of safety, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Animal Welfare & Biosecurity
  • Ensure compliance with all animal welfare standards, company policies, and audit requirements.
  • Maintain strict biosecurity procedures to protect flock health and prevent disease exposure.
  • Coordinate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and internal animal health teams.
  • Support audit readiness for customer, regulatory, and third-party welfare programs.
Operational Performance
  • Analyze production data and KPI trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement SOPs and operational best practices.
  • Manage labor efficiency, operational costs, and resource utilization.
  • Coordinate pullet placements, flock transitions, depopulations, and cleanout schedules.
Maintenance & Facility Coordination
  • Partner with maintenance leadership to ensure proper operation of:- feeding systems

    • egg collection systems
    • manure handling systems
    • ventilation equipment
    • automation systems
  • Assist with capital improvement projects and facility upgrades.

  • Ensure facilities remain clean, organized, and operationally efficient.

Regulatory & Environmental Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
  • Support environmental and manure management programs.
  • Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for audits and compliance programs.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, Business, or related field preferred.

  • 5+ years of poultry or egg production leadership experience.

  • Experience managing large teams in agricultural or food production environments.

  • Strong understanding of:- flock management

  • Proven leadership and team development abilities.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to analyze production data and operational metrics.

Preferred
  • Commercial layer or breeder management experience.
  • Cage-free or aviary production experience.
  • Multi-site or complex-level operational leadership.
  • Experience with poultry production software and reporting systems.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.
Physical & Work Environment
  • Ability to work in poultry barn and agricultural environments.
  • Must be able to walk barns regularly and work around dust, odors, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Weekend, holiday, and emergency response availability required as needed.
  • Must comply with all company biosecurity and animal welfare policies.
