A VTC Engineer, or Video Teleconferencing Engineer, is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting video teleconferencing systems and solutions. They ensure seamless communication between users at different locations by managing hardware, software, and network configurations that support video calls and conferences. VTC Engineers often work with audiovisual equipment, codecs, cameras, microphones, and networking devices to provide reliable and high-quality conferencing experiences. Video Teleconference (VTC) Engineer

Location: Washington, DC – Onsite
Remote: No – this position requires onsite support
Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance with eligibility to obtain Top Secret

Position Overview

Improvix Technologies is seeking a Video Teleconference (VTC) Engineer to provide onsite VTC, audiovisual (AV), and unified communications support within a high-tempo, mission-critical federal environment. This position supports executive-level users and high-visibility engagements where reliable communications, responsiveness, and exceptional customer service are essential. The VTC Technician will support the setup, operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of classified and unclassified video conferences, meetings, presentations, and collaborative communications.

The ideal candidate is technically capable, calm under pressure, highly customer-focused, and comfortable providing hands‑on support to senior and VIP customers. This role requires the ability to quickly troubleshoot issues, coordinate with other technical teams, and ensure meetings and VTC sessions operate seamlessly from start to finish.

What You’ll Do
  • Set up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot VTC and audiovisual equipment for meetings, conferences, presentations, and executive‑level engagements.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and support VTC sessions, including high‑visibility and time‑sensitive events.
  • Configure and operate AV equipment including AV racks, touch panels, microphones, displays/monitors, cabling, sound and mixing equipment, and related conference‑room technologies.
  • Provide onsite, just‑in‑time VTC support before and during meetings to quickly identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Support both classified and unclassified VTC environments in accordance with applicable security requirements and procedures.
  • Provide user support for unified communications and collaboration platforms including Microsoft Teams, Webex, Zoom, Google Meet, and similar technologies.
  • Perform pre‑meeting checks and validate room, audio, video, connectivity, and presentation capabilities prior to scheduled events.
  • Troubleshoot VTC, AV, endpoint, connectivity, and collaboration‑platform issues and coordinate with network, infrastructure, service desk, or other technical teams when additional support is required.
  • Assist with conference room reservations, room configurations, and AV/IT hardware and software management.
  • Provide professional, discreet, and responsive technical support to senior leaders, VIP users, and mission‑critical staff.
  • Maintain awareness of scheduled events and proactively identify potential technical or operational issues.
  • Document technical issues, resolutions, configurations, and recurring problems as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with other VTC, AV, infrastructure, network, and customer‑support personnel.
  • Provide after‑hours or weekend support for scheduled events or escalations when required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • Hands‑on experience supporting VTC, audiovisual, unified communications, or conference‑room technologies in a professional environment.
  • Experience setting up, scheduling, operating, and troubleshooting video teleconferences.
  • Working knowledge of AV equipment including microphones, displays, touch panels, AV racks, cabling, sound systems, and related equipment.
  • Experience with collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, Zoom, and Google Meet.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to independently diagnose issues and drive them through resolution.
  • Experience supporting Windows and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer‑service skills and the ability to interact professionally with executive‑level and VIP customers.
  • Ability to remain composed and customer‑focused while resolving technical issues during high‑visibility or time‑sensitive events.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with technical and operational teams.
  • Flexibility to support occasional after‑hours and weekend requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–3+ years of professional VTC, AV, unified communications, or related technical‑support experience.
  • Previous experience supporting senior executives, VIP customers, or other high‑visibility users.
  • Experience supporting VTC or communications within a federal government, Department of Defense, Department of State, or other secure/mission‑critical environment.
  • Experience supporting classified VTC environments or multiple VTC/bridge technologies.
  • Relevant AV, VTC, networking, or unified communications certifications are a plus but are not required.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance is strongly preferred.
The Environment

This is not a traditional help desk or conference‑room AV position. The team supports a 24x7x365 executive IT environment where communications must remain secure, reliable, and available to support senior leadership, high‑priority engagements, crisis response, and other mission‑critical operations. Success in this role requires more than technical knowledge.
