OverviewOrmat Technologies is pioneering the next frontier of the clean energy transition through Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). We are seeking a world-class, entrepreneurial executive for the role of Director of Enhanced Geothermal Business Development.
This high-impact leadership position is responsible for driving Ormat’s market-making commercial expansion across North America. Operating as a strategic bridge across the entire Ormat organization, this Director will work cross-functionally to influence regulatory pathways, leverage powerful cross-industry synergies, and architect complex, institutional-scale infrastructure deals valued at $5B+. This role reports directly to the VP of Business Development and is pivotal in establishing Ormat as the undisputed global leader in next-generation baseload renewable energy

Responsibilities

  • Cross-Organizational Integration & Regulatory Influence:
  • Work seamlessly across Ormat’s business units—including legal, engineering, exploration, and operations—to align corporate capabilities with massive market opportunities.
  • Drive strategy and collaborate with the VP of Business Development to actively influence industry standards, regulatory pathways, and the utilization of federal and state incentives.

  • Origination and Commercial Structuring
  • Originate, structure, and execute complex, large-scale capital Power Purchase Agreements and Joint Venture opportunities from initial concept through to final contract signature.
  • Oversee sophisticated project finance structures, joint venture frameworks, asset risk allocation models, and long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) tailored for multi-billion-dollar energy assets.
  • Act as the primary commercial owner during high-stakes negotiations, partnering effectively with legal teams to secure optimal risk mitigation and corporate outcomes.

  • Relationship & Pipeline Development:
  • Identify, qualify, and engage with institutional energy developers, major utilities, clean tech innovators, and strategic enterprise partners to build a multi-billion-dollar project pipeline
  • Serve as a primary contact capable of building absolute trust and maintaining long-cycle, C-level relationships with stakeholders

  • Industry Integration:
  • Leverage connections in the Oil & Gas, Land, and Water sectors to unlock immense cross-industry synergies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's preferable with industry experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in business development and project development. Proven success in launching new technologies or opening new energy markets.
  • Strong roots and professional networks within renewable power or oil & gas sectors are essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the rare ability to translate highly technical, novel engineering concepts into clear, value-driven business cases.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts and proven negotiation skills; ability to partner effectively with legal while owning commercial outcomes.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 40%.
