Overview

This role will directly influence how we leverage cloud and AI technologies to create customerโ€‘centric, secure, and scalable platforms that power the future of energy. We are seeking a strategic engineering executive to lead our Outcomes engineering organization as Vice President of Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Guide and Develop Talent: Mentor and grow a worldโ€‘class engineering organization, empowering teams to deliver customerโ€‘centric solutions with authenticity and accountability.
  • Define Technical Strategy: Define and execute cloud architecture strategies leveraging modern engineering practices, distributed systems, and secureโ€‘byโ€‘design concepts.
  • Deliver Innovative Solutions: Leveraging both Itron and thirdโ€‘party endpoints and networks, deliver solutions to our utility customers that address their business goals and meet their expectations in terms of reliability, accuracy, scale and security.
  • Embed AI Innovation: Operationalize AIโ€‘assisted design, coding, testing, and optimization to enhance velocity, quality, and operational intelligence.
  • Foster Collaborative Culture: Cultivate an environment of psychological safety, high trust, and agility, enabling teams to experiment, learn, and own outcomes.
  • Crossโ€‘Functional Partnership: Develop effective relationships with Outcomes Product Management and other internal teams, as well as across Itron Business Units, to ensure alignment and achieve measurable business results.
  • Performance Excellence: Establish and monitor KPIs for reliability, customer outcomes, and engineering productivity, driving continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Resilience and Security: Promote operational resilience and compliance across the platform ecosystem.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field; masterโ€™s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering responsibility, including managing large, distributed, technical teams.
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering enterpriseโ€‘grade cloudโ€‘based solutions running Microsoft Azure, AWS and other hyperscalers.
  • Demonstrated success integrating AI into the software development lifecycle (e.g., AIโ€‘assisted coding, automated testing, intelligent monitoring, generative design tools).
  • Technical expertise in cloudโ€‘native architectures, distributed systems, embedded firmware, systemโ€‘level APIs, and largeโ€‘scale data solutions.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (.NET, Java, Python) and DevOps/CI/CD automation.
  • Strengths in strategic thinking, talent development, and inspiring high performance.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to align both internal and external stakeholders and influence outcomes.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience with largeโ€‘volume data ecosystems, realโ€‘time streaming, or eventโ€‘driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with regulated or complex enterprise environments.
  • Advanced technical degree or executiveโ€‘level engineering management experience.
