VP of Engineering
About ShipperHQ and this Position:
ShipperHQ is a trusted leader in the e-commerce shipping space, with over 15 years of experience helping merchants deliver better checkout experiences. Founded in 2009, we power shipping logic and checkout optimization for thousands of brands, from DTC disruptors to enterprise retailers, in 150+ countries. Based in Austin with a global team, we're a fast-moving, product-led company shaping the future of e-commerce logistics.
ShipperHQ is looking for an experienced VP of Engineering to lead our engineering organization and drive the successful execution of our product roadmap. This role is responsible for developing high-performing engineering teams, improving engineering processes, and ensuring the reliable delivery of scalable, high-quality software.
Working closely with Product, Architecture, and executive leadership, the VP of Engineering will translate business priorities into engineering execution while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This leader will mentor engineering managers and senior engineers, remove organizational roadblocks, and ensure teams have the structure, tools, and support needed to deliver exceptional results.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys coaching teams, drives operational excellence, and embraces AI and modern engineering practices to improve engineering productivity and product quality.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop the engineering organization, fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture
  • Partner with Product to translate business priorities into engineering execution and delivery plans
  • Own engineering planning, resource allocation, and execution of the product roadmap
  • Drive predictable delivery through effective sprint planning, prioritization, and execution
  • Coach and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers while supporting career growth and team development
  • Improve engineering processes, development practices, and operational efficiency across teams
  • Partner with the Chief Architect to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions
  • Ensure engineering teams build reliable, high-quality software that meets customer and business needs
  • Monitor engineering metrics and continuously improve delivery, quality, and team performance
  • Collaborate with Product, Customer Success, Sales, and Operations to align priorities and remove delivery obstacles
  • Champion engineering best practices, code quality, testing, and continuous improvement
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and organizational planning to scale the engineering team
  • Foster an AI-first engineering culture by identifying opportunities to leverage AI for software development, testing, and operational efficiency
  • Help shape technical direction and contribute to long-term engineering planning alongside executive leadership
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, innovation, and continuous learning
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience with significant engineering leadership experience in SaaS organizations
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex software products
  • Experience as a Director of Engineering, Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, or similar leadership role
  • Strong background in building and delivering modern cloud-based SaaS applications
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and modern software development practices
  • Experience leading Agile software development teams and improving engineering processes
  • Strong experience with engineering planning, delivery management, and capacity planning
  • Proven ability to hire, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams
  • Experience partnering closely with Product Management and Architecture to deliver customer-focused solutions
  • Strong understanding of engineering operations, CI/CD, testing, observability, and software quality practices
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
What We're Looking For:
  • Strong engineering leader who enjoys coaching and developing teams
  • Execution-focused with a track record of delivering high-quality software
  • Collaborative partner who works effectively across Product, Architecture, and the business
  • Data-driven decision maker who continuously improves engineering performance
  • Comfortable leading through change in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Passionate about modern engineering practices, AI, automation, and continuous improvement
  • High ownership mentality with a bias toward action and delivering results

Why ShipperHQ?
This is a highly fast-paced environment where no two days will look alike. For the right candidate, with the right attitude, there are fantastic opportunities for career progression. We are an agile, fast-moving team that likes to roll up our sleeves and solve some of the biggest issues in shipping. Benefits and Perks:
  • Collaborate with a motivated team, directly tying your results to organizational success
  • 22 days of PTO plus public holidays
  • 401k Match
