Job Summary
The Vice President, Retail - Lawn & Garden will serve as the senior commercial leader responsible for driving strategic growth, customer engagement, and field execution for Lawn & Garden at Home Depot and Lowes. This role blends executive level sales leadership with hands on retail execution, including big box merchandising strategy, field team oversight, and cross functional partnership with Supply Chain, Operations, Marketing and Finance.
As a key member of the Retail leadership team, the VP will own the development and execution of multi-year retail strategies, lead national and regional selling efforts, strengthen relationships with assigned customers, and ensure flawless in-store execution through direct oversight of field sales, merchandising, and service operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Build and execute a comprehensive retail growth strategy across Retail Lawn & Garden, aligned to achieve financial, operational, and brand goals.
  • Own annual revenue, profitability, and market share targets across Big Box retail channels.
  • Lead market and competitive analysis to identify opportunities, risks, pricing strategies, and assortment/mix optimization.
  • Serve as the executive lead for key national retail partners (e.g., Home Depot, Lowe's), strengthening senior merchant, replenishment, supply chain, and store operations relationships.
  • Guide joint business planning, pricing, line reviews, category presentations, and new product/program proposals.
  • Ensure the organization delivers a superior customer experience through flawless communication, execution, and service.
  • Lead field sales merchandising teams responsible for in-store execution, planograms, displays, seasonal resets, service levels, and operational excellence.
  • Use POS data, store level insights, and field reporting to drive continuous improvement in on-shelf availability, promotional execution, sell through, and service performance.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, and HR to align execution with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Development to prioritize innovation based on customer needs, consumer trends, and competitive pressures.
  • Oversee sales forecasting, pipeline management, pricing analysis, and customer scorecards.
  • Monitor performance metrics (POS, turns, service levels, margin mix, promotional ROI, etc.) and adjust strategies as needed to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Provide executive level insights and report to senior leadership on performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop high performing teams across assigned accounts, and field merchandising.
  • Foster an accountable, collaborative culture grounded in customer-centricity, bias for action, and continuous improvement.
  • Build organizational capability through talent assessment, succession planning, and functional excellence.

Job Requirements
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Retail Sales, National Accounts, or Consumer Packaged Goods, with 5+ years in a senior sales or commercial leadership role.
  • Proven success leading major retail accounts in big box/home center channels in Lawn & Garden, Building Materials, or other seasonal/consumer durables.
  • Experience managing field sales and/or merchandising organizations.
  • Strong executive presence with a demonstrated ability to build relationships at senior levels - merchants, supply chain, retail executives, and internal cross-functional leaders.
  • Ability to analyze POS data, market insights, and financial metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Strong strategic thinking paired with a willingness to be hands on in the field.
  • Salesforce or CRM platform experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% depending on season.
