Job description

Position Summary:

The Sr. Vice President of Development will advance CHA’s well-established programs and strategic initiatives by growing revenue streams, building awareness of and participation in CHA’s mission across Ohio, and leading a team of six development and event professionals. This role reports to the CHA President & CEO and will direct and oversee the implementation of all fundraising strategies, including major gifts, grants, corporate contributions, and the annual fund. Will be responsible for regular updates and reports for the CHA Board of Directors and will work closely with the Board’s Development Committee Chair. Will also serve as the primary relationship manager for the four Regional Development Boards across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising 

  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with donors, the philanthropic community, and key stakeholders across the state (including the governing and regional boards), and participate in community events to represent the organization.
  • Develop and execute strategies to secure sources of private funds, and support the government affairs department as needed in securing public funds
  • Execute new ways to increase funding from foundations, corporations, individuals, and other sources. 
  • Grow deferred gifts and planned giving, utilizing CHA’s agency endowment fund to diversify gift acceptance.  
  • Develop budget projections and recommend fundraising goals to President/CEO and Board of Directors
  • Steward donors and ensure the continual development of prospects to support major and planned gift opportunities. 
  • Work closely with and engage the President & CEO and relevant board members on high-level gift solicitation.
  • Leverage the Board in fundraising activities and provide support and guidance, including solicitation training, material development, relationship management, and ongoing donor stewardship and cultivation efforts.

Strategy and Planning

  • Support the President & CEO in annual organizational planning related to all development activities and projections for the organization.
  • Work closely with the Director of Finance on the financial components of the long-range strategic plan, ensuring financial strength and growth. 
  • Ensure donor records are managed and maintained with accuracy and integrity
  • Regularly provide donor and fundraising reports to CHA leadership.
  • Ensure donor messaging, events, and other CHA activities are well aligned with the CHA mission and brand.

Staff Management and Development

  • Lead and manage development staff, including performance assessment, coaching and development, and recruitment.
  • Foster a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates staff.
  • Define and communicate performance expectations to ensure direct reports understand responsibilities and expectations. Regularly evaluate performance and consistently provide feedback. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (in non-profit management, marketing, communications, or related field) or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification or equivalent preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience leading successful fundraising programs, managing budgets, and overseeing staff preferred
  • Strong Customer Relationship Management (CRM) experience, especially Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including experience in negotiation, influencing, relationship building, and collaboration
  • Operates with integrity and professionalism at all times
  • Motivated to alleviate childhood hunger, with working knowledge of the subject and issues tied to it
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to travel within the state of Ohio is required. Travel potential is ~ 2x per month or as needed & could include overnight travel.
