Job description

Robert Half is partnering with a growing healthcare organization seeking an experienced Controller, VP of Accounting, or senior finance leader to support a large-scale finance transformation initiative. This interim engagement will play a key role in helping the organization transition from a highly decentralized operating structure to a more centralized Shared Services model, with an immediate focus on Accounts Payable operations across approximately 30 facilities.

The organization is looking for a hands-on leader who can provide both strategic direction and operational support while helping establish scalable processes, improve controls, and drive AP modernization efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for an executive-level accounting professional who has successfully led shared services, process transformation, centralization, or large-scale operational improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic oversight for Accounts Payable operations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support the transition toward a centralized Shared Services environment.
  • Assess current AP processes, workflows, controls, and organizational structures to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead initiatives focused on AP transformation, standardization, and operational optimization.
  • Support the design and implementation of future-state AP processes and governance models.
  • Manage and mentor AP personnel while driving accountability, performance, and service-level expectations.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership, finance teams, and operational stakeholders to improve consistency across locations.
  • Oversee vendor onboarding, vendor management, and 1099 compliance processes.
  • Identify and eliminate manual or inefficient processes while implementing best practices.
  • Support change management efforts as the organization moves toward a more centralized operating model.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Controller, Director of Accounting, VP of Accounting, Assistant Controller, or comparable finance leadership role.
  • Significant experience overseeing Accounts Payable functions and AP leadership teams.
  • Proven success leading organizational transformation, process improvement, or finance modernization initiatives.
  • Experience managing accounting operations across multiple locations, business units, or facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive change within complex organizations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining engaged in operational execution when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Shared Services implementation or expansion experience.
  • Accounts Payable centralization experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience, including hospitals, ambulatory services, physician groups, or multi-site healthcare operations.
  • Experience working in decentralized organizations undergoing operational transformation.
  • Familiarity with Great Plains (Dynamics GP).
  • Background in procure-to-pay optimization, finance transformation, or process redesign initiatives.

What We're Looking For

This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting executive who has successfully led teams through change and understands how to build scalable finance operations. The successful candidate will bring a combination of financial leadership, operational expertise, and transformation experience, with the ability to guide the organization through a significant Shared Services and Accounts Payable modernization effort.
