Role Overview

The Sr. Virtual Designer (VD3) is responsible for laying out and producing electrical shop drawings with a thorough knowledge of computer-aided drafting (CAD/Revit) system standards, practices, and techniques. This role builds fabrication-ready 3D models from field superintendent layouts and drives BIM coordination across disciplines.

The role works closely with the operations team, general contractors, MEP trade partners, and the engineering department to ensure systems are coordinated, install-ready, and aligned with project schedules. This is a hybrid position with some days in the office and some days working from home.

Core Responsibilities

  • Build 3D models from field superintendent layouts using Revit and Navisworks
  • Lead BIM coordination, including clash detection and resolution using Navisworks Manage
  • Upload models and follow the GC-lead BIM coordination process through to model signoff
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Virtual Designers and BIM Detailers
  • Work with VDC Managers to manage and maintain BIM budgets throughout the project
  • Build and maintain relationships with the operations team, general contractors, and MEP trade team members
  • Collaborate with the engineering department during model creation on design/build projects
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the company's Revit templates, details, and graphic standards
  • Produce bills of materials for procurement and labor tracking
  • Complete tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail while meeting aggressive project schedules

Required Background

  • 8+ years of experience performing computer-aided drafting in the electrical commercial construction industry
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CAD Associate degree and/or equivalent working experience required
  • Electrical field experience and/or Electrical Theory Associate degree required
  • Knowledge and application of the National Electrical Code (NEC) required
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit required
  • Ability to work with Navisworks/Revizto to view trade clashes and extract information from the BIM model
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction blueprints and project specifications
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Capable of working on multiple projects concurrently
  • Self-starter able to work well individually and as part of a team
