Job description

Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and bilingual Preschool Teacher Assistant to join our team at Clinton Hill Community & Early Childhood Center. This position is responsible for maintaining organized and safe classroom environments, supporting the classroom in instructional and administrative tasks, and fostering positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

Classroom Organization and Preparation

  • Ensure the classroom is organized and ready for instruction at the beginning of each school day. This includes setting up necessary materials, organizing interest areas, and ensuring a clean and conducive learning environment.
  • Maintain inventory and safeguard all classroom supplies and equipment.

Instructional Support

  • Cover classroom prep periods as assigned.
  • Lead daily small group lessons and read-aloud activities as assigned.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing Positive Behavior Support strategies and behavior plans designed by PIRT specialists, Clinton Hill Disabilities Coordinator, or Play Therapy Clinicians.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing IEPs and ensuring the inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs.
  • Assist the teacher in completing developmental screenings per required timeframe.
  • Assist the teacher in completing quarterly assessment checkpoints per required timeframe.

Student Observation and Documentation

  • Observe and document childrenโ€™s learning and development; input documentation into the electronic and physical student portfolios.
  • Observe children daily to detect signs of illness, injury, emotional disturbance, learning disorder, speech problems, or other special needs.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and French, with strong verbal and written skills in both languages and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, families, and staff.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus a Child Development Associate (CDA) or relevant certification.
  • Prior experience working with preschool-aged children in an educational setting; 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development and preschool educational practices.
  • Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD, Creative Curriculum, and Eureka Math.
  • Experience supporting social-emotional learning developmental goals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, families, and staff.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Available for extended-hour events such as back-to-school night and parent-teacher conferences.
