Job description

Emergency Department Physician Assistant (PA-C)

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Physician Assistant (PA-C) to provide comprehensive care in a rural Auburn, NY community hospital. This role offers the opportunity to practice full-scope emergency medicine, including procedural care, patient education, and care coordination, in a supportive and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is confident, adaptable, and passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to patients of all ages in a fast-paced Emergency Department setting.

Schedule: Shifts available: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM, 7 days per week.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Systematically gather relevant data, identify clinical signs/symptoms, and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the patient’s health status.
  • Perform and document/dictate patient health history and physical exams; maintain accurate progress notes in the EMR.
  • Present pertinent clinical information to attending physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Formulate definitive conclusions regarding patient status and communicate recommendations to physicians.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate interventions to ensure individualized expert patient care.
  • Write orders, initiate diagnostic tests, and coordinate care for acutely ill or injured patients.
  • Monitor and adjust medical/nursing care based on patient progress and interdisciplinary input.
  • Develop and implement patient education, rehabilitation, and discharge plans.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, rounds, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Apply knowledge of disease processes, pathophysiology, and current trends in emergency medicine.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in executing care plans and performing procedures.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergencies, critical changes, or complications.
  • Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate care for all patient populations.
  • Perform simple laceration suturing, wound care, and splinting for fractures and minor extremity injuries.
  • Demonstrate strong communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members throughout the care process.
  • Incorporate new scientific findings into practice and maintain awareness of developments in emergency medicine.
  • Utilize community resources, computers, and information systems effectively in patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed (or eligible) as a Physician Assistant in New York State.
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are preferred.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
