Job description

Bath Community Hospital is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Rural Health Clinic team. Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer or designated staff physicians, the PA will provide high-quality primary care services in a fast-paced setting. The PA is responsible for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and education. Urgent care experience is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive health assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnose and manage common acute and chronic illnesses, including minor trauma and episodic care.
  • Provide preventive healthcare, including screenings, immunizations, and counseling on wellness.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, preventive health, and lifestyle changes.
  • Initiate and perform minor procedures and life-saving measures in emergencies.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, nursing staff, and support services.
  • Refer complex or high-risk cases to supervising physicians appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Assist with compliance during rural health clinic audits.
  • Attend hospital meetings and maintain required continuing education (CMEs).

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensure: Current license to practice as a PA in the state of Virginia.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of urgent care experience is required.
  • Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent clinical judgment, EMR proficiency, strong communication, and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Work Environment
  • Clinical environment with exposure to infectious diseases and medical equipment.
  • May involve standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • PPE required in accordance with infection control standards.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent use of hands for medical equipment, computer work, and patient care.
  • Ability to lift and move patients or equipment as needed.
  • Requires visual acuity, hearing ability, and manual dexterity.
