Position Announcement
The Assistant Director supports the strategic growth and daily operations of the STEM Center by overseeing programs, supervising staff, cultivating community partnerships, managing budgets and grants, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality STEM education experiences for K-12 students, educators, and community members. The Assistant Director serves as a key member of the leadership team and acts on behalf of the Director as needed.
Responsibilities
Program Development and Oversight

• Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of STEM programs, camps, classes, competitions, and outreach events.
• Coordinate annual signature events such as robotics competitions, STEM festivals, and community engagement activities.
• Develop new STEM programming aligned with community and workforce needs.
• Ensure programs align with organizational goals, educational standards, and grant objectives.
• Monitor program outcomes and prepare reports demonstrating impact and effectiveness.

Staff and Volunteer Supervision

• Supervise AmeriCorps members, student employees, interns, and volunteers.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation of staff.
• Coordinate staff schedules and program assignments.
• Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
• Foster a collaborative and positive workplace culture.

Partnerships and Community Engagement

• Serve as a liaison with K-12 schools, districts, higher education institutions, industry partners, and community organizations.
• Develop and maintain partnerships that support STEM programming and workforce development.
• Coordinate guest speakers, field experiences, and industry engagement opportunities.
• Represent the STEM Center at community events, meetings, and conferences.

Grants, Funding, and Budget Management

• Assist with grant writing, implementation, reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Monitor program budgets and expenditures.
• Identify sponsorship and funding opportunities.
• Coordinate purchasing and inventory management for supplies and equipment.
• Support fundraising initiatives and donor stewardship efforts.

Operations and Facility Management

• Oversee daily operations of the STEM Center.
• Ensure classrooms, maker spaces, and equipment are maintained, organized, and safe.
• Manage inventory of technology, robotics equipment, consumables, and instructional materials.
• Coordinate facility scheduling and reservations.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and safety procedures.

Marketing and Communications

• Assist with marketing and promotion of STEM programs and events.
• Coordinate website updates, newsletters, and social media content.
• Develop promotional materials and recruitment strategies.
• Maintain communication with participants, parents, educators, and partners.

Data Collection and Assessment

• Collect participation data and program metrics.
• Prepare reports for grants, stakeholders, and university leadership.
• Analyze trends and recommend improvements to programming.
• Maintain records related to program participation and impact.

Strategic Leadership

• Assist the Director in developing and implementing the center's strategic vision.
• Identify emerging trends in STEM education and workforce development.
• Participate in strategic planning and long-term growth initiatives.
• Represent the Director as needed in meetings and community engagements.
• Assume leadership responsibilities in the Director's absence.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support teacher professional development programming.
• Oversee youth protection and risk management requirements for minors on campus.
• Manage registration systems and customer service processes.
• Support entrepreneurship, innovation, and maker initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field from an accredited institution. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with K-12 youth in an educational, informal education, or community outreach setting. The total qualifications required are based on a combination of education and work experience. Any experience used to meet the education requirement cannot also be used to meet the work experience requirement.
• Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with students, educators, and community partners.
• Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a classroom teacher or educator.
• Experience developing STEM curriculum, educational programs, or instructional materials.
• Experience building partnerships between education and industry to support career awareness, workforce development, or experiential learning opportunities.
• Experience supervising staff, interns, volunteers, or student employees.

Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $50,000-$55,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of October 2026.
