We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 72,000 individuals and families each year at our 100 locations, including 10,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families live in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
Homelessness Prevention Initiative (HomeBase) is a CAMBA program that provides case management and essential services to at-risk individuals and families in Brooklyn and Staten Island to prevent homelessness. Individuals and families receive services that help them overcome problems with public benefits, housing, education, health care and other issues that could impede their ability to maintain stable households.
Position: Program Assistant
Reports To: Program Director
Location: 1117 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11213

What The Program Assistant Does:
  • Responsible for opening the office and preparing it for CAMBA employees and visitors
  • Answer telephone and provide callers with answers to questions about the organization (i.e.-address, fax #, directions, etc.).
  • Direct clients and walk-ins to proper sign in-sheets when entering the office.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and track all office equipment maintenance issues including fax machine and phone line. Order, receive, track, store and distribute office supplies. Maintain inventory and ensure security of supplies. Assist with keeping records in regards to purchasing, vendors and purchasing groups, and trouble shoot any issues.
  • Perform general maintenance duties including mopping, sweeping, polishing floors, disposing of trash, consolidating for pickup, cleaning bathrooms, dusting furniture and equipment, replacing lightbulbs, painting, other facility repairs as needed.
  • Coordinate and assign staff mail boxes as needed.
  • Messenger responsibilities including mail/check pick-ups from various locations (main office, HRA, Legal offices and other CAMBA Locations) and/or deliveries.
  • Copy, collate and file correspondence and various documents weekly.
  • Organize and manage filing system, and shred as needed.
  • Maintain accurate files of paperwork of all orders (i.e. - copies of Purchase Order forms, Program Request forms and package receipts).
  • Travel to other CAMBA sites or client homes as needed.
  • Coordinate, plan and participate in special events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are the Qualifications for the Position:
Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
Sufficient education and technical expertise: to comprehend written and oral instructions (work orders); basic math to accomplish maintenance tasks; and to document accomplished tasks.
Other Requirements:
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
  • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
  • Comply with any and all Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information.

Preferred Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Compensation: $40,829.20
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
