Welcome to Cal Coast Adventures. Santa Barbara's premier tour, lesson, and rental company for all things fun and outside in Santa Barbara. We also run Santa Barbara Surf School and Santa Barbara Bikes To Go. We're a small team in Santa Barbara focused on helping people get outside and enjoy our beautiful city via bike, surfboard, kayak, or paddleboard.


We can hire on part-time or full-time. You decide your weekly hours total!


Our operations include Surf Lessons, Surf Rentals, Bike Tours, Bike Rentals, Kayak Tours, Kayak Rentals, Paddle Board Lessons, and Paddle Board Rentals.


We're seeking bright and proactive individuals who can bring energy and passion to one or multiple of the following roles:

Most of our clients are traveling into Santa Barbara looking to have a good time. Our goal is for you to help make their vacations memorable and life-giving. Our goal is also to share our love of cycling, surfing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.


Expectations for Cal Coast Adventures' Guides & Instructors:

  • Prompt arrival for scheduled shifts

  • Patiently showing, teaching, and instructing clients
  • Enthusiasm for one or multiple of the following: cycling, surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding

We are fairly flexible with our scheduling. The amount of days per week that you would like to work is up to you. You can choose to work for a couple of days a week or five days a week. Because we are a part of the hospitality industry please expect to work weekends and holidays. It is also very common to receive handsome tips from our clients in addition to your hourly pay.

Job Details:


Surf Instructor Requirments:

- 3 days a week available with weekend availability

- Clean driving record: parking tickets are ok.

- Upbeat and happy personality

- Be organized

- 5 years surfing experience - meaning you've surfed for at least 5 years, not necessarily teaching.

- Flexible

- Great people skills (WE ARE VERY CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED)

- Must be active

- Always on time

- Leading Surf lessons

- Safety orientation

- Daily set up and tear down; general cleaning after lessons

- Renting to customers

- Customer Service


Bike Guide Requirements:


  • Weekend availability required; weekends are our busiest days.
  • Bike mechanic/shop experience is a plus and may qualify for higher pay after the interview.
  • Lead bike tours.
  • Manage bike rental procedures.
  • Deliver and pick up bikes.
  • Assist customers with bikes and Santa Barbara recommendations.
  • Help with bike maintenance/repairs if interested and experienced.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs; e-bikes are heavy.
  • Tour gratuities are common and earned in addition to hourly pay.
  • Tips often depend on the quality of the tour and guest experience.
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and reliable.
  • Strong customer service and people skills required.
  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor and positive attitude required.
  • Must stay proactive and productive between rentals and tours without constant direction.
  • Help with general bike shop tasks as needed.
  • Must contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Clean driving record required.


Payscale: $19-$21 DOE plus tips, gratuity, and bonuses. Pay moves up with time.
