VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR Summary of Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for management of RSVP volunteer program. Provides leadership and expertise within Generations in regard to volunteer management and its role in achieving the stated mission. Works with others at Generations to ensure grant requirements fulfilled.

Program Responsibilities

• Writes and submits grants that will support the stated mission of Generations’ volunteer projects with input from the Director of Planning & Community Development and the Fiscal Director
• Manages and assists with annual fundraising projects that support the RSVP program
• Enhance the RSVP project effort through active involvement with community organizations, other national service programs and other senior and volunteer programs
• Responsible for submitting required reports in a timely manner
• Manages programs/priorities of the RSVP grant, which currently include finding volunteers for the following activities which include but are not limited to Evidence-based programming (Matter of Balance and Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs), Distribution of Health Information (Senior/health Fairs, not-for-profits, Disability awareness), Food Pantry support (emergency food distribution - Senior Farmers Market Vouchers, SNAP, etc.), Intergenerational activities (Kids Read, Vision Screening, Jump Start, Little Elves Workshop), Tax Preparation for the Elderly, Dementia Support Programs, Ombudsman and Companionship (Angel Worx). Also, oversee other programs that have currently been requested through the community (including Love A Bear, Expired Drug Toss, Disaster Preparedness workshops, CISMA) and volunteer stations, though not specific to the RSVP grant’s priority list.
• Ensures RSVP has an active, representative Advisory group to give input on RSVP operations representing the focus areas
• Attends Master Training for Evidence-based programs to be able to train and monitor volunteers
• Ensures Volunteer stations and supervision of volunteers are program compliant
• Assists Generations with other volunteer programs and initiatives
• Promotes the RSVP program through social media, Generations’ communication coordinator, an RSVP newsletter and other methods which can make the desired impact for the program

Leadership Duties

• Administers the day-to-day operations of the program
• Develops and manages new volunteer programs as dictated by the RSVP grant and supports other volunteer initiatives for older adults through referral to Angel Worx or other organizations needing volunteers
• Collaborates with Director of Planning & Community Development to develop the grant budget, apply for additional funds and ensure data is collected and funds allocated per the grant requirements
• Recruits, does appropriate background checks, provides orientation, places, arranges assignments and helps evaluate RSVP volunteers
• Submits monthly output reports to the Director of Planning & Community Development. These reports incorporate performance measurement outputs and outcomes aligned with the RSVP grant
• Develops, obtains memorandum of understandings and maintains volunteer stations
• Attends monthly staff meetings with other RSVP staff and Healthy Aging staff to share upcoming program information, give input and support to other Generations’ priorities as needed
• Collects information for AmeriCorps Seniors reporting requirements and submits to Director of Planning & Community Development timely (per RSVP Operations handbook and AmeriCorps direction)
• Keeps RSVP advisory council members informed and solicits their advice on matters affecting project operations
• Provides information and support to RSVP volunteers
• Assesses appropriateness and performance of volunteer stations
• Attends RSVP cluster and Indiana state RSVP meetings, and training conferences conducted or authorized by CNCS. Communicates relevant information to Generations’ leadership through the Director of Planning & Community Development
• Prepares semi-annual and annual reports for both AmeriCorps and Generations. Also completes other volunteer related reports
• Ensures Volunteer reporter is up-to-date with current volunteers, stations and activities

Agency Responsibilities

• Abide by Generations’ mission and core values and Generations’ Code of Ethics
• Assist with agency sustainability by assisting with fund-raising and/or grant opportunities
• Assist with training and orientation of agency staff and volunteer(s)
• Introduces or develops new ideas and processes to improve performance and productivity of Generations’ mission and core values
• Potentially work during non-business hours, weather closed days or a Vincennes University Holiday
• Attend meetings, in-service training and perform other duties as assigned
• Maintain current program and resource knowledge

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or experience in related field preferred
• Working background with seniors and/or volunteerism preferred

Language Skills

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
• Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
• Ability to write speeches and articles and speak to the public, civic organizations, boards of directors, etc. Ability to collect data, formulate working plans for grant writing

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest and percentages
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to reports such as fiscal status and program expectations

Reasoning Skills

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Interpersonal Skills

• Ability to interact with co-workers, vendors, VU administration and staff offices, general public, community leaders, state staff and clients
• Ability to maintain personal composure and handle office or client situations

Miscellaneous

• Strong management, administrative, communication, planning and organizing skills required
• Ability to use computers, do data entry and have moderate knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs
• Knowledge of volunteer reporter and PowerPoint preferred

The RSVP Director is required to reside within the Generations’ service area or have strong community involvement.

Community Involvement

All employees are encouraged to be active in their community. Some employees may be asked to represent the agency at United Way, University meetings or any other meetings as assigned or pertain to the agency. Employee shall notify the supervisor of any potential conflict of interest.

Policy Formulation

Provide leadership and direction to identify and plan for the Community Programs area and agency, including formulation of policy.

Policy Interpretation

This position interprets policies of Generations and Vincennes University to the agency personnel and the general public.
