Job description

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Gaylord Hospital! Please read this information carefully to be sure that you understand what is expected of our adult volunteer staff. If you would like to pursue volunteering at Gaylord, complete the entire application and furnish 2 references (not an employee of Gaylord or a family member). Once these are received you will be contacted for an interview and we will discuss health screening requirements as well as available opportunities.

If you are inquiring about volunteering to fulfill mandatory college requirements for Physical or Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant/APRN programs, Psychology, Social Work or Nursing, unfortunately, we do not offer specific volunteer opportunities in these clinical areas. In addition, we cannot accept court-mandated community service.

Health Screening and Additional Requirements (to be completed after your interview):

  • Mandatory criminal federal and state background check.
  • Documentation of PPD testing performed within the past 12 months.
  • Submission of a signed physician statement attesting that you are able to volunteer.
  • If born after 1957, documentation of immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR and Varicella with the provided Health Screen form signed by your health care provider.
  • Mandatory Influenza (Flu) Vaccination verification (during flu season) unless granted an exemption due to health or religious reasons. Request for exemption deadline is August 15th.

Expectations:

  • Agree to volunteer a minimum of three (3) hours per each (1) one volunteer day and a minimum of 60 hours* of volunteering annually. If you are seeking volunteer hours to satisfy school requirements, you must fulfill a minimum of 30 hours with Gaylord after documentation is signed off by Volunteer Services. In addition, we do not
  • Attend an interview and mandatory volunteer orientation, plus specialized training, when applicable.
  • Arrive on time for assignments and provide adequate notice if unable to work.
  • Abide by hospital and volunteer services’ rules and guidelines.
  • Adhere to the dress code which ensures that volunteer’s appearance is appropriate and professional.
  • Attend mandatory volunteer training, department meetings/in-services and competency testing.
  • Understand that assignments cannot be guaranteed if an absence exceeds four weeks.

*The days/annual minimum hours requirement differs for participants in the following programs: Peer Mentor, Pet Therapy, OIM, Friendly Visitor, Volunteer Musician, Chaplain Support/Eucharistic Ministry/short-term assignments.
