Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and organized Volunteer Librarian to support our hospice program through reading and literature. This unique volunteer role helps maintain both a physical and digital library of supportive materials designed to offer comfort, reflection, and gentle engagement during end-of-life care.

Role Overview:

  • Fulfilling book requests from patients, families, and volunteers
  • Maintaining and organizing a small physical lending library for volunteer visits
  • Creating and updating a simple catalog of available books and materials
  • Coordinating occasional book drives to grow and refresh the collection
  • Developing and maintaining a digital library of reading materials and grief/support resources for families
  • Helping identify appropriate reading materials for different ages and needs (comfort reading, spiritual resources, light literature, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Organized and comfortable managing books, lists, or small inventories
  • Compassionate and sensitive to the needs of hospice patients and grieving families
  • Comfortable using basic digital tools (email, spreadsheets, or simple online folders)
  • Reliable and able to work independently with light coordination from staff

Library, teaching, bookstore, or administrative experience is helpful but not required.

This flexible role can be structured around your availability. Some tasks can be done remotely, while occasional in-person visits are required for organizing physical materials or supporting book distribution.
