Job description

Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager, the Youth Basketball Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Fall and Winter youth basketball programs and performs a variety of administrative and customer service functions relating to respective programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide support in developing, planning, and organizing youth basketball programs subject to the needs and interests of the community, and in support of the District's mission, vision, and core values.
  2. Create game schedules and participate in the formation of teams.
  3. Evaluate program content and facility operation through observation, participant and staff comments, records of participation, demographics, and trends, and formulate recommendations to improve services.
  4. Work closely with the Program Manager to identify strategic initiatives, establish direction, and further develop customer service philosophy. Evaluate and continually improve processes and procedures to increase efficiency.
  5. Determine, schedule, and communicate team practice locations. Communicate changes in practice locations.
  6. Work closely with the Volunteer Manager to recruit volunteer coaches. Process and maintain volunteer paperwork and background checks
  7. Attend coach meetings and distribute equipment.
  8. Attend games at different locations during the season.
  9. Purchase, inspect, inventory, and initiate requests for repairs of program equipment and supplies.
  10. Update and distribute league rules regarding the officiating of the league's games.
  11. Monitor waitlists using registration software.
  12. Communicate effectively with participants, guardians, and staff regarding rule infractions, questions, or concerns.
  13. Ensure compliance with program outcomes and develop specific goals and objectives related to improvement of programs and events.
  14. Work closely with the Program Manager to develop and implement an effective public marketing program for youth basketball programs. Prepare information for the promotion of programs and work closely with the Marketing Department in the design and development of program guides, flyers, posters, brochures, and web materials.
  15. Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain on-going open communication and notify Program Manager of situations regarding the operation of the program such as broken equipment, equipment shortages, and facility damage.
  • Record and communicate any difficult situations or behaviors to the Program Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to display professionalism with participants.
  • Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer software including Microsoft platform.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) months of experience with Youth Basketball, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

Special Considerations:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Subject to office environmental conditions.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules during high volume work periods.
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
  • Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
