Job description

This student therapist volunteer assignment is unpaid.

Central Counties Services recognizes that volunteers are essential to the growth, expansion and support of our services we provide to individuals in our communities. Our volunteers often assist in supporting our individuals we serve, providing advocacy and assisting with our programs throughout our 5 Central Texas Counties.Central Counties Services is seeking volunteers to provide therapeutic services for the Bell County Jail Mental Health Services Team who are passionate about supporting those affected by mental illness and in a jail setting.

We are looking for:

  • Graduate Level Student Counselors currently enrolled in internship at Texas A&M - Central Texas or The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

With Center staff oversight -

  • Provide individual and/or group counseling activities.
  • Promote therapeutic environment for participants of the program.
  • Engage in treatment triage with other professionals to promote care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Complete training as outlined by the Local Mental Health Authority and Bell County Jail.
  • Complete documentation within timeliness assigned.
  • Works under the clinical supervision of the Licensed Clinician from Central Counties Services.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Graduate Level Student Counselors currently enrolled in internship at Texas A&M - Central Texas or The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of mental health best practices relating to mental health recovery.
  • Ability to remain calm in highly stressful situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, families, clinical service providers, jail personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to interact effectively as part of a treatment team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to present a professional appearance and conduct when representing the Center.

Additional Requirements

  • Approved volunteers must complete a comprehensive training program and background check.
    • Results of these checks must be in alignment with Center and Bell County Jail expectations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Will be subject to searches by jail staff to enter the work site.
  • The following physical abilities are required for the volunteer assignment: hearing, mental acuity, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
