Description Title: Graduate Assistant, 11-Month (UH Press Journals) Position Number: 0000GA11 Hiring Unit: University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UHM), Library Services, UH Press Department: Journals Location: University of Hawai'i Press (2840 Kolowalu Street, Honolulu, HIi 96822) Date Posted: June 29, 2026 Closing Date: July 13, 2026 Salary Information: $28,026 (Step 14) annually at 50% FTE (with tuition waiver, if eligible and all requirements are met) Effective August 1, 2026: $31,524 (Step 17) annually at 50% FTE (with tuition waiver, if eligible and all requirements are met) Monthly Type: 11-Month Full Time/Part Time: Part Time: 50% Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) Temporary/Permanent: Temporary 11-month position; Not to exceed: 05/31/2027 Other Conditions: To begin approximately June 2026. Renewal dependent upon satisfactory performance, program needs, and/or availability of funds. Duties and Responsibilities: 1.

Serves as editorial point person for academic journal on the journal's public email account, answering questions and corresponding with authors and editorial team. 2. Serves as editorial point person for the journal's online submission and peer-review system by maintaining the system, producing reports, and making configuration changes as instructed by the Editor.

3. Troubleshoots submission issues with authors, editors, and peer-reviewers. Communicates with UH Press staff as necessary regarding system errors or bugs.

4. Collaborates with the journal Editor is soliciting book reviewers and reviewing and editing submitted book reviews. 5.

Maintains book review database and makes updates as required. 6. Reviews copyedits and proofs of each article and journal issue.

Provides feedback and corrections to compositor. 7. Assists Editor with the transfer to publisher of all final revised and copy-edited files to be included in each issue.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Full time classified graduate student in English, Social Sciences, Ethnic Studies, STEM, or related discipline in a Masters or Ph.D. program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa

2. One year editorial experience. 3.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations. 4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong organizational skills.

5. Experience working with databases and proficient with basic Microsoft office software. 6.

Must meet University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Office of Graduate Education Graduate Assistant eligibility requirements. 7. Ability to travel independently in a timely and efficient manner to various locations, including UH Press Office and Manoa campus.

Desirable Qualifications: 1. Knowledge or interest in Chinese studies. 2.

Experience working in academic publishing. 3. Experience working with a manuscript submission management system.
