Responsibilities
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a candidate for a software and systems engineer to support the Data & Software Sciences department in the Energy & Environment Science Technology division. You will participate and lead in all phases of the design, development and deployment of electronic performance solutions, systems, and projects in support of: multiple government agencies, Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory, department and program initiatives.
You will design, develop and analyze overall IT architectures - integrated business process, applications, hardware / software infrastructure and cyber security solutions to meet mission needs and maintain alignment with enterprise architecture direction and standards. Responsible for technical planning, architecture development and modification of specifications that meet performance, scalability, reliability and security needs; translates and defines technical solutions to mission needs through reasoned application of information technology by analyzing, modeling, designing constructing and testing reusable logic modules for use in business, scientific and engineering application.
You will lead software and systems engineering activities, supporting a variety of energy systems and national security programs. You will lead and develop a growing team of software developers, be responsible for full stack coding on both internal and external facing applications, contribute to design of software architecture, propose and implement solutions to optimize internal business systems, help shape culture to encourage innovation in software and systems engineering. You will lead business development and proposal development to capture DOD and DOE funding opportunities in software and systems engineering, analytics, analytics workflows, and accelerated verification and validation in energy and defense applications.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other relevant field plus 10 years relevant experience
Special Requirements and/or Training:
• Minimum of 10 years of technical or project experience in the area of designing and developing software and systems solutions, preferably with DOE or DOD customers including the service components (Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps) and government laboratories
• Programming languages: : JAVA, JavaScript, T/SQL, PL/pgSQL, C++, C, PHP, SQL, C#, XHTML, CSS, XML, HTML, Basic, JSON, Sass
• Frameworks and tools: Vue.js, Bootstrap, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, Tomcat, Maven, Node.js, jQuery, Selenium, Underscore.js
• Software tools: Innoslate, IntelliJ, Eclipse, Git, SVN, Vitech Core, MagicDraw
• Minimum of 10 years software and systems architecture experience
• Demonstrated experience in architecting and developing highly-scalable, multi-user software systems and solutions with specific emphasis on tools that enable systems engineering
• Demonstrated expertise in systems and software modeling languages, such as UML, SysML, and LML
• Ability to work with government customers, do business development to shape new opportunities and write proposals to capture new opportunities
• Ability to define, understand, and resolve hardware and software integration issues
• Ability to develop, test, and deploy custom software applications using existing or emerging technologies
• Ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts to develop, deploy, and support innovative technical solutions
• Ability to apply software engineering principles, theories and concepts to complex processes and business solutions
• Membership and/or leadership in professional organizations, such as the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA)
Must be a US Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI and DOE Q clearance.
