Job description

The Skirball Cultural Center-an institution guided by a spirit of welcome-seeks a cordial, reliable, and flexible collaborator with excellent communication skills for the Temporary On-Call position of Visitor Experience Associate. This person serves on the Visitor Experience team and reports to the Visitor Experience Manager. After an initial training period, this position will be called in to work on an as-needed basis during normal operating hours of Tuesday-Friday, 10:30 am-5:00 pm and Saturday-Sunday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm, with potential for additional hours and some schedule shifts to accommodate evening programming. This is a temporary, on-call position. After a two-day, paid training period, this position can anticipate working approximately 8-24 hours per month.
Starting Pay: $19/hour
Fixed-Term: Ends on December 31, 2026, with potential for extension.
Responsibilities:
  • Greet, welcome, and engage with visitors in a warm, professional, and outgoing manner that sets them up for a positive Skirball experience.
  • Proactively seek information about Skirball operations and maintain up-to-date knowledge about policies, programs, exhibitions, and offerings to share with visitors and colleagues.
  • Perform box office sales and generate will-call lists using the organization's ticketing system.
  • Efficiently organize and handle visitor transactions with attention to detail while providing courteous customer service with discretion and security
  • Receive, track, and account for daily cash and credit receipts ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Work closely with Security, Porters, and Volunteers at the membership desk to help the lobby run smoothly and ensure a positive visitor experience.
  • Share visitor experiences and weekend activity reports with manager and other senior staff as requested.
  • Appropriately respond to visitor feedback and resolve issues with direction and/or support from management.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and verbal communication skills and a friendly, positive attitude.
  • Active interest in interacting with people for the bulk of each day. Prior experience interacting with families desirable.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor through respectful behavior with visitors
  • Serve as a reliable and caring member of the Visitor Experience Team.
  • Prior sales/box office experience desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail, effectiveness as a team player, and ability to solve problems nimbly in a changing environment.
  • Ability to convey the Skirball's mission and share information about its exhibitions, programs, and other offerings with visitors.
  • Ability to interact with people of different generations and backgrounds in a respectful, kind, patient, and caring way.
  • Basic math skills to account for receipts, prepare routine reports, and resolve errors.
  • Basic computer skills and competent written communication skills.
  • Fluency in (spoken) Spanish preferred.
