Job Description:

Spark Team Mission Statement: Within the mission of the Mayborn Museum Complex, the mission of the Spark Team: The Spark Team exists to serve visitors by providing the highest quality visitor experience through promoting visitor engagement. The Spark Team also supports the career development of Baylor Students by providing them with personal development and leadership opportunities.

Job Summary:

This is an on-your-feet job. As part of the Museum Engagement Team, Spark Guides will engage with museum visitors in the Traveling Exhibit Gallery, Play Waco, and other areas around the museum, including the Historic Village, Natural History Exhibits, and Discovery Wing playrooms. Students will ensure high-quality customer service to guests of the museum and facilitate educational activities.

Job Duties:

  • Staff high traffic exhibit areas, including Play Waco, Traveling Exhibit, and other museum exhibits. 
  • Re-set props and maintain cleanliness in Play Waco, Traveling Exhibit, and the Discovery Wing playrooms. 
  • Staff Traveling Exhibit according to exhibit contract requirements. 
  • Monitor exhibit functionality and report any issues to the facilities and exhibits team.
  • Monitor guest behavior and report any issues to the team lead and supervisors. 
  • Greet all visitors and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge about museum history and exhibits. 
  • Answer frequently asked questions about ticket prices and museum events. 
  • Foster visitor engagement and learning. 
  • Facilitate educational experiences and hands-on activities for museum visitors created by education staff in the Traveling Exhibit, Play Waco, and throughout the museum in 'Spark Zone' activities. 
  • Provide visitors with additional information about museum exhibits. 
  • Facilitate play and imagination for visitors throughout the museum. 
  • Utilize interactive activities to help visitors make connections and learn about exhibit subject matter. 
  • Exhibit professionalism in all things, including appearance, co-worker interactions, and visitor interactions. 
  • Attend monthly, after-hours team trainings as necessary. 
  • Use the When I Work app to keep schedule and availability up to date. 
  • Utilize Microsoft Outlook and Teams to communicate with co-workers and supervisors effectively. 
  • Follow rules and guidelines outlined in the Museum Engagement Student Employee Handbook.
