Job description

Are you a power systems engineer who wants to use AI to transform how utilities plan the electric grid. The AWS Energy & Utilities AI Products team is using AI to reimagine grid planning and interconnection study processes for the global utility industry. We are looking for a Senior Solutions Architect who brings deep domain expertise in grid planning, power flow analysis, and interconnection studies to help define, validate, and demonstrate AI-driven solutions to utility customers.
In this role, you will lead technical engagements with utility planners, translate their workflows into AI product requirements, define how AI integrates with industry simulation tools, and develop technical content for the power systems community

This is a high-impact role in a small, collaborative team where your domain knowledge directly shapes how AI is applied to grid planning.
Key job responsibilities
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for power systems engineering within the product team, translating utility customer workflows into product requirements and validation criteria
- Lead customer engagements with transmission and distribution planners, demonstrating product capabilities and gathering technical feedback to shape the roadmap
- Define integration requirements and test strategies for third-party power systems simulation tools used in grid planning and interconnection studies
- Partner with applied scientists and software engineers to validate analytical methods, review model outputs, and ensure product accuracy meets utility-grade standards
- Develop technical content (white papers, reference architectures, conference presentations) for the utility planning community
A day in the life
You split your time between deep technical work and customer-facing engagement. One morning you might review power flow results with an engineering team to validate a new analytical method; that afternoon you could be on a call with a utility's interconnection study group, understanding how they evaluate generation queue projects. You bring domain credibility that lets you speak the language of transmission planners while shaping a product that changes how they work.
