The Opportunity
The Underwriter II is responsible for reviewing and evaluating moderately complex investor loan files, ensuring compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong manual underwriting expertise and the ability to make independent, well-reasoned credit decisions while maintaining service-level expectations and loan quality. You will play an essential role in maintaining loan quality, supporting team workflows, and ensuring a seamless customer experience.
What You'll Do
  • Manage a pipeline of loan files, reviewing documentation to determine borrower eligibility and prevent fraud
  • Complete underwriting functions in accordance with program requirements, company standards, and regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure loans meet investor guidelines, SOPs, and compliance standards
  • Confirm all lending conditions are satisfied prior to closing
  • Ensure marketability of closed loans
  • Identify and escalate files that deviate from standard parameters
  • Evaluate borrower creditworthiness, loan collateral, and repayment capacity
  • Maintain acceptable turnaround times and SLAs
  • Review title commitments for compliance with investor and company guidelines
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external partners
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support efficient workflows and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs
  • Authorized Remote Locations: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, NC, SC, TX, UT
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm CST
  • Salary Range: $35.09 - $48.00/hr (Non-Exempt/Hourly/Overtime Eligible)

What We Are Looking For:
  • 3+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, with a strong focus on Non-QM loans
  • Solid manual underwriting expertise
  • Comfortable working across multiple systems and technologies
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage time-sensitive priorities
  • Strong initiative, reliability, and commitment to team success
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Completion of all required training within designated timelines
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Internal Applicants: Must meet minimum qualifications and have no recent disciplinary actions.
