Description

The Senior Systems Engineer’s role is to design, implement and manage functional servers, network, and backup infrastructures for new or current customers. The Senior Systems Engineer will also analyze, build, and accurately resolve escalated client hardware and software issues in a timely manner, while mentoring and guiding System and service team members.

Responsibilities

Networking:

    • Configure and manage network systems, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
    • Implement security protocols and perform regular maintenance to ensure protection and avoid downtime.
    • Optimize network performance and resolve connectivity issues promptly.
    • Monitor traffic and collaborate with IT teams to integrate new technologies.

Server Management:

    • Install, configure, manage, and optimize Windows and Linux server operating systems.
    • Deploy software updates, patches, and maintain virtual machines using platforms like VMware or Hyper-V.
    • Monitor server performance, implement backup solutions, and diagnose and resolve server issues while ensuring security protocols.
    • Conduct routine security audits and vulnerability assessments.

In-Depth Troubleshooting:

    • Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems that Tier 1 and Tier 2 support cannot solve.
    • Use advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the root cause of issues.
    • Document solutions and update knowledge base articles to assist lower-tier support teams.

Advanced Security Management:

    • Implement and manage security measures, conduct audits, and handle intrusion detection.
    • Create, update, and enforce security policies, train staff on procedures.
    • Collaborate with other departments to reduce risks and monitor network traffic for anomalies.
    • Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and stay updated on cybersecurity trends.

IT Infrastructure Design:

    • Design, implement, and maintain secure IT infrastructure.
    • Plan scalable solutions and oversee hardware/software deployment.
    • Implement security protocols and monitor performance to minimize disruptions.

Experience & Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an IT Senior System Engineer or similar role.
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate environment managing server, network and desktop support.
  • Strong knowledge of network configurations, server management, and IT infrastructure design.
    • Fortinet network stack experience preferred
    • Azure, AWS and Cloud infrastructure experience recommended
    • Proficiency in managing Office 365 and Entra is required.
    • Proficiency in Windows server operating systems. Linux experience recommended.
    • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and experience with diagnostic tools.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices and protocols.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and lead in high-pressure environments

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information System, or related field
  • Required: CompTIA Network+, Security+
  • Strongly Preferred: Server+, CISSP, FortiGate experience

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and on-call rotation
  • Emergency on-site support as needed (e.g., storm recovery)
  • Must pass CJIS background check and maintain eligibility
