Senior Virtualization Engineer

Position Summary

PGTEK is seeking a Senior Virtualization Engineer to support a major VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9 deployment at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. This position will play a key implementation and engineering role supporting the deployment of VCF across NIPR ISN, SIPR ISN, and other programs supporting AFLCMC/HNI and/or the 83rd NOS.

The enterprise architecture and overall design will be developed by the project's Enterprise Architect. The Senior Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for helping implement that design and providing ongoing administration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and technical support across the VMware VCF environment.

This is a fully onsite position at Hanscom AFB and requires an active Secret clearance. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands‑on knowledge of VMware technologies and the ability to work effectively as part of a technical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation and deployment of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9 within NIPR ISN, SIPR ISN, and other supported environments.
  • Translate enterprise architecture and technical designs into working VCF implementations.
  • Perform administration, configuration, and maintenance of VMware VCF environments.
  • Support VCF upgrades, enhancements, patches, and other assigned lifecycle activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving VMware virtualization and VCF technologies.
  • Assist with the implementation of enterprise virtualization solutions in accordance with established technical designs and requirements.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and administration for VMware environments.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, engineers, administrators, and other project personnel to implement and maintain the environment.
  • Document technical activities, configurations, and relevant operational procedures as required.
  • Support additional VMware-related engineering and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Extensive hands‑on knowledge and experience with VMware virtualization technologies.
  • Strong understanding of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
  • Experience implementing, administering, and supporting enterprise VMware environments.
  • Experience supporting VMware upgrades and lifecycle management.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • VCP certification required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a technical team.
  • Ability to work onsite at Hanscom AFB, MA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation 9.
  • Experience supporting virtualization environments within government or Department of Defense environments.
  • Experience working with NIPR and/or SIPR environments.
  • Experience supporting Air Force or other DoD mission environments.
  • Additional VMware certifications or advanced VMware expertise.
Work Environment

This position is onsite at Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts. No travel is anticipated for this role. Candidates must be local to the Boston/Hanscom AFB area or able to reliably work onsite.
