The group you'll be a part of
In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
As a Systems Engineer at Lam, you will design complex frameworks, systems, and products for our wafer fabrication equipment. You will define system specifications, requirements, parameters, and integrate hardware/software into a cohesive system. Your ability to identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses will help shape the next generation of Lam initiatives.
What you'll do
You will be part of a team responsible for the development and integration of new plating control technology into Lam deposition products. The team is responsible for the expertise and development of the core technology. This team will work with product teams to integrate and productize this technology.
Responsibilities include:
  • Owner for theory of operations and accountable for functional specification design documentation.
  • Developing system and subsystem requirements for the core technology.
  • Collaborate with design teams to define system integration requirements and interfaces.
  • Operate as a project owner with a high-level of autonomy and lead multidisciplinary projects.
  • Identifying and resolving technical opportunities and risks across hardware, controls, software, and manufacturing.
  • Managing design tradeoffs and performing hands-on lab work.
  • Develop test methodologies, validation, and verification methods. Ensure these items are completed.
  • Designing experiments to characterize subsystems and analyze data using Statistical Analysis of Variation and SPC methods.
  • Presenting technical proposals, test plans, and tradeoff analyses.
  • Technical program management between suppliers and engineering teams.

Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 8+ years of experience; or Master's degree with 6+ years; or equivalent experience.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • System-level understanding of electrical architecture, integration, and automation technologies.
  • Experience operating in a cross-functional team. Able to communicate system needs and capabilities between multidisciplinary specialists.
  • Ability to influence engineers internal and external to our organization to achieve objectives.
  • Familiarity with software test methodologies, Design of Experiments, and statistical tools.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting using tools such as DVM, Oscilloscope, network sniffers, and perform log analysis
  • Able to navigate electrical schematics, plumbing, and interconnect diagrams.

Preferred qualifications
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5-Why, 8D, fishbone diagrams).
  • Good working understanding design standards such as NFPA79 and SEMI.
  • Previous industrial equipment or semiconductor experience.
  • Experience managing suppliers to meet objectives and deliverables.
  • A good working understanding of panel/display technology
    • Experience with architecture, circuit, and control at the pixel level.
    • Experience with the manufacturing and fabrication process at the device level.
    • Calibration algorithms and methodologies.
