Virtual School Counseling information

What is virtual school counseling?

Virtual school counseling is the provision of academic, career, personal, and social support to students through online platforms rather than in-person meetings. Virtual school counselors use video calls, emails, chat, and other digital tools to connect with students, parents, and teachers. They help students set goals, address mental health concerns, and navigate educational challenges in a remote learning environment. This approach allows for flexible scheduling and accessible support, especially for students in online or hybrid schooling.

How do virtual school counselors support students' social-emotional needs in an online environment?

Virtual school counselors use a variety of digital tools and platforms to connect with students individually and in groups, providing counseling sessions, workshops, and resources remotely. They often face the challenge of building trust and rapport without face-to-face interaction, so they implement creative strategies like regular check-ins, virtual office hours, and confidential messaging systems. Collaboration with teachers, parents, and administrators is key to ensuring students receive comprehensive support. Counselors also participate in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices for remote engagement and crisis intervention.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual school counselor?

To thrive as a Virtual School Counselor, you need a master's degree in school counseling or a related field, state certification, and a deep understanding of child development and educational systems. Familiarity with online counseling platforms, student information systems, and secure communication tools is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, active listening, and the ability to build rapport remotely are vital for effective student engagement. These skills and qualifications are crucial for supporting students' academic, emotional, and social needs in a virtual environment.

Position Overview

Rock Solid Counseling, LLC is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to join our team in a full-time remote capacity. This role is designed for skilled professionals who are passionate about delivering high-quality virtual counseling services to students and families in a school environment. Your contributions will directly impact the mental health and well-being of our clients, helping them navigate challenges and build resilience.

About the Organization

Rock Solid Counseling, LLC is a thriving virtual private practice located in Anaheim, California. We are committed to providing exceptional counseling services to individuals, couples, and families, with a particular focus on school-based interventions. Our mission is to foster healing relationships and community support through effective therapeutic practices. By joining our organization, you'll be part of a forward-thinking team that values professional growth and collaborative care.

Work Environment

This position is fully remote, offering you the freedom to create a flexible work-life balance. You will be part of a diverse team that is supported by technology designed to facilitate secure and confidential interactions with clients. As an independent contractor, you will have the autonomy to develop your practice while enjoying the backing of a supportive organization that prioritizes both clinician and client welfare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver virtual counseling services through secure telehealth platforms to a diverse array of clients, focusing predominantly on students and their families.
  • Provide individualized counseling sessions that address various social and emotional issues, including anxiety, depression, peer relationships, academic pressures, and stress management.
  • Develop tailored treatment plans in collaboration with clients, incorporating evidence-based therapeutic approaches and continually adapting strategies to meet evolving needs.
  • Utilize virtual platforms effectively to conduct therapy sessions while ensuring client confidentiality and maintaining a professional environment.
  • Track client progress rigorously, utilizing assessment tools and feedback mechanisms to adjust therapeutic approaches as needed, reinforcing clientsโ€™ paths toward improvement and goal achievement.
  • Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team of professionalsโ€”including psychologists and educational specialistsโ€”to ensure comprehensive care, facilitating referrals and consultations as necessary to enhance client support.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on school-aged clients and their families, addressing a range of mental health needs. This includes working closely with students who may be dealing with academic stress, family dynamics, social integration, and other challenges typical in the school setting. Your role will be to empower these individuals by providing tailored support and guidance to help them thrive both academically and personally.

Qualifications
  • A Masterโ€™s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • An active LCSW license in the state of California is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in clinical practice, with a strong emphasis on virtual counseling environments.
  • Familiarity with assessment methodologies and proficiency in medical terminology related to behavioral health.
  • Deep understanding of therapeutic modalities such as behavioral therapy and applied behavior analysis is essential.
  • A well-equipped home office with reliable internet, telecommunication capabilities, and appropriate technology to conduct virtual sessions effectively.
Preferred Experience

While a minimum of three years of experience in the field is mandatory, candidates with additional qualifications or specialtiesโ€”such as trauma-informed care, child and adolescent development, or school counselingโ€”will be viewed favorably. Experience with teletherapy tools and platforms will also enhance your candidacy.

Compensation and Benefits

This role offers a competitive annual salary in the range of USD 120,000 to 130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Rock Solid Counseling, LLC also provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance to support your personal health needs.
  • A 401(k) retirement plan with company matching to help secure your financial future.
  • Generous paid time off, including sick leave, to ensure you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Life insurance coverage to provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
  • A profit-sharing program that recognizes and rewards your contributions to the organization.
Career Growth Opportunities

At Rock Solid Counseling, we believe in fostering the professional development of our clinicians. As a member of our team, you will have access to continued education opportunities, mentorship programs, and the potential for leadership roles as you contribute to our mission. We encourage our staff to pursue certifications and specialized training, enhancing both your expertise and career trajectory.

Why Join Our Team

Choosing to work with Rock Solid Counseling means aligning yourself with a team that is dedicated to quality care and community healing. You will have the satisfaction of making meaningful contributions to the lives of students and families while enjoying the flexibility of a remote position. This is not just a job; itโ€™s an opportunity to be part of a mission-driven organization that prioritizes the well-being of both clients and staff.

Application Information

If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and meet the qualifications outlined, we invite you to apply for this rewarding position. Please submit your resume along with a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you would be a great fit for our team. We look forward to welcoming you to Rock Solid Counseling, LLC!
