You matter, and so does the impact you can make with us.The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. 

The Healthy Living team is integral to the mission of the American Heart Association, striving to ensure that all with cardiovascular conditions or risk factors have the care, resources and support to survive and thrive. This team leads organizational strategy to improve the diagnosis, treatment, condition management, and quality of life for patients living with cardiovascular disease, stroke, or a risk factor.

The Healthy Living team is seeking an intern with an interest in public health including program development, implementation, and evaluation. Ideal candidates will possess strong skills in program and project management and consumer message testing/consumer insights research and/or nutrition.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration:  9/8/26-12/11/2626
  • Location: Remote with Tuesday availability
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
  • Research and reporting
    • Conduct online research to identify external content.
    • Participate in our consumer research process to develop messaging and create slides to convey and communicate research results to various internal and external stakeholders.
    • Create slides summarizing ROI for sponsors.
  • Content creation
    • Develop promotional resources for various aspects of our business.
    • Edit materials (e.g., slide decks, one-pagers, etc.) and coordinate review with internal stakeholders.
    • Help translate and trans create the organization's Healthy Living content to support engagement with multicultural audiences.
  • Administrative support
    • Develop materials for meetings (e.g., agenda, compile notes, gather exhibits, etc.)
Qualifications
  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in nutrition science, journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or localization/translation with an interest in non-profit and health care communications.
  • Knowledge in the field of public health and health literacy.
  • Demonstrated skills in research such as market research, environmental scans, etc. With the ability to apply market research when creating consumer content.
  • Demonstrated skills in written communications, including ability to translate dense content into easy to read and understand versions and formats for various audience such as consumers or executive leadership.
  • Undergraduate course work in health promotion, nutrition, public health, content marketing, general marketing, and/or communications.
  • Fluent in Spanish a plus but not required. 
  • Effective oral (one-on-one and group; virtual meetings; phone), written (consumer-facing educational resources, email) and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally in a corporate and non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects from inception through completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Must be familiar with software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Canva.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, including professional interaction with colleagues. 
  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
