Overview

The Senior Estimator analyzes industrial construction drawings, specifications, client request for proposals, and other documentation to prepare labor, material, and equipment estimates for construction projects by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

*The following are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position.

  • Review and understand the bid documents published by the client
  • Perform quantity take-off and price take-off
  • Complete manhour per detailed construction unit labor estimate to determine estimated labor
  • Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists
  • Prepare project CPM bid schedule with man loaded resources
  • Coordinate disciplines scope determinations; Solicits and evaluates subcontractor proposals
  • Understand specific uses of construction equipment and determine the equipment needed to complete the presented scope per the drawings and documents
  • Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Compute cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness
  • Verify completeness of estimate and conduct review of peer estimates
  • Promote interaction with estimating team by brainstorming constructability of project, maximizing creativity, analyzing production rates, and maximizing indirect costs to reduce duration
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data

Qualifications

  • Must have 10 plus years’ experience with estimating industrial construction packages
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a construction related field or experience in the industrial construction industry and have an understanding of the craft work being performed
  • Must be proficient with Excel and other Microsoft Computer Programs
  • Must be proficient developing estimate schedule in Primavera or similar program
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision
  • Reading, writing and hearing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
  • Must have knowledge of safety rules and regulations and learn client and company policy

Physical:  While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee may be required to:

  • Remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods during office work and meetings.
  • Operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information in person, electronically, and during virtual or telephone meetings.
