Job description

The position involves providing exceptional nursing care for the patients during their pre-operative and post-operative course in our ambulatory surgery center. The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of the patient. The RN will ensure that the patient is prepared for surgery and equally prepared for discharge. The RN will prepare for the arrival of patients in the ASC by ensuring that proper supplies and equipment are available. The patient's chart and health history will be reviewed on admission and consent will be verified prior to procedure. The RN will admit and prepare the patient for surgery, including starting an IV and giving all ordered medications. The admitting RN will work closely with members of the anesthesia department.

The RN will also be responsible for recovering patients following surgery. Patients will be assessed and evaluated during their recovery phases and their status and any interventions will be documented. Patients and their caregivers will receive discharge instructions from the RN in a manner that is easy to understand.

The RN will assist with wiping down gurneys and cleaning bays between patients and will participate in the maintenance of the unit, including stocking supplies and assisting with medication inventory.
